Hi abybaby,
I think the monsoon is started and your trip might get stuck up due to land slides. July , august and upto mid sept is not advisable due to heavy runs. 1) Their are plenty of buses to rudraprayag and also take a bus to gaurikund from here. 2) Start as early as possible in the morning and you might take around 7 hours to reach kedarnath. 3) After darshan come back and stay at chandrapur gmvnl rest house very beautifull location on the banks of river mandakini. 4) Please try to stay at punjab and sind awas in kedarnath as it is a better place to stay. Visit www.gmvnl.com for accomodation fares and availablity. |

The plans changed but we finally reached our destination
D-1:-We started on 19th from delhi..since the plan was made on that day only so no reseervation was there in train (Jan shtbdi) took another train to muzaffarnagar from where we boarded the jan shatabadi...reached haridwar at 7.50 pm...settled down in a hotel(500)...visited the nearby market searched for the gmou bus stop and taxi stand -- sleep. D-2:- Got up early at 5--visited har ki pairi took bath ( this was a new experience for me )--but it was very refreshing--breakfast at mohan ji...then back to hotel..went to bus stand--to take bus for Rudraprayag(RP)--but landed up in a jeep--started from Haridwar at 11 am--midway stopped somewhere b4 Deoprayag--watched the confluence of bhagirathi and alaknanda from Top ( it was beautiful )--Passed through Srinagar and then finally reached RP at 4.20 pm ( our jeep driver looked that he will sleep shortly - but that was his style )--checked in few hotels/lodges but no space--finally found a guset house on kedarnath road itself ( Alaknanda guset house(500)--looked newly built--clean and the view was good )--our room faced the Alaknanda ( infact alaknanda was just 20 mts from us )--freshened up--visited the temple on the confluence--took part in the evening aarti and stayed there for some more time. --at the confluence alaknanda was looking she was angry with mandakini , which was flowing very quitely there, that where have you been for so long..it was really beautiful. Dinner and then slept. D-3: got up at 5--took jeep for Gaurikund at 5.50--the jeep stopped midway at many points--passed through chandrapuri, tilwara, augstyamun i,guptkashi, rampur, sonprayag etc. chandrapuri is really beautiful the gmvn is located at a perfect place. reached G'kund at 9.30...took bath and after having b'fast started the climb at 11.00...kept on climbing taking breaks midway...reached rambara at 1.30..went to gmvn to have lunch...and then it started raining heavily..so we stayed there for some time...the food was excellent and the tea even better.. finally we started at 3 from rambara..rain had stopped but clouds were hanging on top and there was fog all around us...and after walking for 40 mts it started to drizzle...we kept on walking...but when the rain became heavy...we took shelter and some break...we purchased our ponchos from there...then again started...due to fog nothing was visible on the nearby mountains...so we kept on walking...finally before 1.5 km we got the first view of Kedarnath and it looked wonderful..with fog clearing up...the views were wonderful...just looking at that we got refreshed...finally at 6.30 we reached k'nath...but due to rains...and some other reasons we landed up in gmvn rest house(950)--it was pretty cold in k'nath at that time...we took some rest...enjoyed tea...and stayed in the room till 8...then we visited the temple and had darshan...that was a wonderful expereince...i saw the sky...it was full of stars so many stars...its been years that i have seen so many stars at night...that was all so beautiful...after having our dinner we retired at 10. D-4: Got up at 7.30--legs paining badly--it was too ough to get up that morning--but finally we got up--and after refreshing had our breakfast and then headed for darshan at 8.30...that was all so beautiful...the tallest mountain was so tall...it looked as if we are standing near qutub minar and then watching it...all the surroundings were so beautiful...it was nature at its best.. darshan was over by 8.40...then we enjoyed sometime there only...and finally headed back to the RH...after having our breakfast...we visited the rapt kund near the RH...and we saw bubbles coming out of the kund when we speak anything..it was time for us to leave...( how i wish i would have stayed there for few more days )...started descending at 11 and reached g'kund at 2.15...there was no bus for RP...so we took a jeep to guptkashi at 3.15...reach there by 4.30 and luckily got the bus to RP...reached RP at 6.30...there took the jeep to srinagar...reached srinagar at 8...took a hotel there and retired at 10... D-5: got up at 6...then visited the kamleshwar temple back by 7.30...took the jeep to rishikesh at 8...rchd rishikesh by 11.30 then took bus to haridwar rchd HW at 1...deposited luggage...and then har ki pairi...took bath...and then back to bus stand and took the bus back to home. Note: Road conditions:- good upto rishikesh then upto 20 kms say upto shivpuri...it was just ok type...then it was gud...rather very good upto RP...from rp to gupt kashi...it is ok...then gud... at many places we saw roads were being constructed and widened...minor landslides at couple of places... Rains:-we encountered only during our climb. Transport:- i found it better to take jeep then buses...little faster and much more comfortable also... Overall i would have definitely liked to spend few more days at k'nath and visit all the nearby places..specially the glaciers near by...lets see when that happens. Thanks `Abhi |

Hi Baby,
Nice to hear that you completed one of the char dhams. How was rainfall? Is it was clear, moderate or heavy. And what is your idea regarding pictures, as any journey is not complete without it. PatialaHill Last edited by patialahill : Jun 27th, 2008 at 15:00. Reason: spell |
