Yes Piyush I like and appreciate your travel plan. I hope you have also explored Garhwal a lot. Request to write something about the places of Garhwal you have enjoyed.
Uploaded remaining pics. For capt, it is more Nainital than Ranikhet. |

I returned from a wonderful trip to Nainital, Mukteshwar, Binsar,Jageshwar and Ranikhet yesterday night. The weather was pleasant during day time getting colder in the evenings and nights. We had a good and clear view of himalayan peaks from all these places. I will post trip report and upload some pictures very shortly.

Hi Shayamal, I have explored only Kumaun never went to Garhwal..Actually I love Kumaun so never thought of going anywhere else..
I have been travelling to this part of world for the past 10 years continously..May be Garhwal trip will come soon..I did some good treks in Kumaun.Once we trekked(me with my cousin brother,in 1998)from Bhowali to Haldwani in night via Bhimtal, than took a bus from Haldwani to Delhi at around 12am,the bus was full(even at midnight, peak season) there was only one place that was empty, the roof of the bus, indeed it was a good place to sleep. Sadanand ....please upload some pics... |

Piyush I know that you are familiar with each and every corner of Kumaon. It shows the passion. I think you want to discover Kumaon to the possible extent which is beyond my imagination... Great!
Sadanand saab, I have seen the photographs of your Garhwal tour of late nineties. Probably taken by film camera and scanned afterwards(!?). Also gone through some of your posts related to Garhwal. Waiting for the Kumaon photographs. You all please answer, during snowfall at Kumaon region whether peaks are well visible? I wish to go there at that time. Shyamal Mukherjee |

Yes the peaks are visible after snowfall, there should not be any cloud cover or bad weather...Shayamal try to go in december or january...The peaks are mostly visible after October till March..In May and June its very difficult to get views, may be in early morning..Once you see the peaks in the winters,it seems that they are so close, you will think why they are not visible in summers..

Mukteshwar would be the coldest one as per my knowledge .. it is situated at 2400m(8000ft).The maximum would be close to 15(on sunny day) and minimum close to 0(in night). If the weather is not good, means no sunlight the temperature drops substantially, night temperature would be below 0.On the day of snowfall its slightly warmer, but once the snow becomes hard, than the temperature goes in minus.
All other destinations record near about same temperature....Jageshwar is tooo cold in mid january..minimum temperature goes well below o degree celcius.. If the weather is good ...the day temperature is more less like Delhi one..but the nights are quite cold.... |

Piyush is right, nights can get really cold. As long as you are in the sun in the day, its ok. And yes, once it snows, get ready for some chill.
Chaukori can get freezing too. I remember an uncomfortable night there. As far as possible, fix accomodation with some heating, a woodstove is a good option. And a room which gets some sun in the day. |

We (Me & wife) were in Nainital Zoo when we witnessed this snow fall. We had to rush back to hotel as it got extremely cold & then we witnessed 15 - 20 mins. of snow fall from the hotel lobby overlooking the lake. One of our most romantic moments. Ronak. |

We (5+1 child) made a trip to Nainital, Mukteshwar, Binsar, Jageshwar and Ranikhet during Nov 18-23. A sunny weather, a good and clear view of himalayan snow-capped peaks and less of the tourist crowd made this trip wonderful. The trip schedule with some information which may be of use to prospective visitors to these places is given below:
Nov.18 : Arrived Kathgodam at 6.30 a.m. by Ranikhet Exp. Headed for Nainital by pre-booked Scorpio (Rs.500/-). Checked in Hotel Lake View at 7.30 a.m. After breakfast and some rest, we went for local site-seeing including Snow View (by road) and High Altitude Zoo. Came back to Hotel at around 5.30 p.m. Nov.19 : Left Hotel at around 10.00 a.m. to do boating in Naini Lake. Visited Naina Devi Temple, strolled on Mall Road and then took cable car for Snow View. Nov.20 : Left Nainital at 9.00 a.m. to Mukteshwar (54 Kms) by Tavera (Rs.2000/- for full day) via Bhowali, Gagar,Ramgarh and Sargakhet. Had a good view of himalayan peaks at Gagar and 180 degree view from PWD Rest House at Mukteshwar. Later, we took a round walk from Mukteshwar temple to Chauti Jalli and back to temple via forest path. Drove to Bhimtal (48 kms) via Dhari, Padampur and to Naukuchiatal (5 kms) and to Sattal (17 kms). On the way to Sattal, we saw Garudtal. We were back to Nainital by 6.00 p.m. Nov.21 : Left Nainital at 9.30 a.m. for Binsar by Scorpio (Rs.2000/- per day). On the way, visited Kainchi temple and spent some time in Almora (Mall Road). Reached Binsar (Mountain Resorts, Khali Estate) at 1.30 p.m. via Kasar Devi, Kaparkhan and Ayarpani. After lunch at Resorts, took a stroll inside the Khali Estate and spent some time in the Libarary which has a good collection of old books. Had a good sun set view of himalayan peaks from the Resorts. Nov.22 : Got up at 5.00 a.m. to proceed to KMVN Rest House Terrace ( 8 kms). Had a good sun rise view of himalayan peaks at around 6.30 a.m.. Returned to Mountain Resorts by 7.30 a.m. After breakfast, left Resorts at 10.00 a.m. and reached Jageshwar at around 11.30 a.m. via Ayarpani, Gairabend, Paleobend, Barechhina, Punuanaula and Artola. Though a major portion of Gairabend-Paleobend road is not tarred, the journey was surprisingly smooth. We visited temple complex. we were pleasantly surprised that priests at the temples did not pressurise us to make offerings to gods and for money. Left Jageshwar at around 12.30 p.m. and reached Chitai for Golu Devta temple (32 kms) and to Ranikhet via Kalika temple and Golf course. Since some golf tournament was in progress, the golf course was out of bound for visitors. Reached Ranikhet at 4.30 p.m. and checked in at Holm Farm Heritage Hotel. Nov 23 : Checked out from Hotel at around 10.00 a.m. and visited Kameshwar and Jhula Devi temples. Proceeded to Choubatia Orchards for one hour guided tour around orchards and forest. The orchards were barren due to autumn. the best season for visit to Orchards is April-July. After lunch, proceeded for Nainital via Khairna. Took a walk on the Mall Road between 6.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. when the road is out of bound for vehicles. Nov 24 : Left Nainital at 7.00 a.m. by Scorpio and reached Kathgodam by 8.00 a.m. Reached Delhi Jn at 4.0 p.m. by Uttaranchal Sampark Kranti Express. Left New Delhi at 10.00 p.m. by Swaraj Express for Mumbai. I have uploaded some pictures in the Members' Galleries. Some more pictures will be uploaded in a couple of days. Sadanand |
