Me advise a local lad? FAT chance! AB's seen more of the state already than I have.

The Niti valley is beautiful though.

Some different places in Uttrakhand have the same name. Like Sheraghat, Gauchar. Any other? Are there two Choptas?
Shyamal

I could locate three Choptas in Uttarakhand. The famous one on Ukhimath-Gopeshwar road; the second one at Rudraprayag-Pokhri road and the third one off Karnaprayag-Tharali road.

WHAT IS THIS - you can read minds now??!!!
I've actually been preparing a list (in my head) to pen down one day of exactly what you're saying, Shyamal. Mine includes HP too (i.e. one name in UA the other in HP), and "male/female", i.e. last letter 'a' and 'i'
It's not ready by a far stretch, but here's a few selections:

3 Saurs - seen 2, passed close to third (off-road, but Saur PO is on-road - in another village )
2 Dugaddas - seen both
2 Pokhris, 1 Pokhra - seen 1 Pokhri, bypassed Pokhra
3 Sankris - seen all
2 Kandikhals - seen both
2 Kandakhals - seen 1
2 Hindolakhals - seen both
1 Barethi, 1 Bareth - seen both
2 Hanumanchattis - seen both
2 Phulchattis - seen both
2 Garurchattis - seen both
2 Bhatwaris - seen 1
3 Kandas - seen 2
3 Barkots - seen 2
2 Dharkots - seen both
2 Darkots - seen 1
3 Shrikots - seen all
2 Paukhals - seen 1
3 Ramgarhs - seen all (hmm, does Malla/Talla count? )
2 Ghats - seen neither
2 Nagnis - seen both
2 Mundolis - seen 1
2 Arakots - seen both
1 Tiuni, 1 Tiuna - seen first
1 Mori, 1 Mora - seen both
2 Thauldhars - seen 1, passed close to other (it's off-road)
2 Shyampurs - seen both
2 Laldhangs - seen 1
2 Vasuki Tals - seen neither
2 Ramganga rivers - seen both
2 Dhauliganga rivers - seen 1
2 Pali Gads - seen both
1 Binsar, 1 Binsar Mahadev, 1 Binsar Devta! - seen first, passed close to second
1 Dhauntiyal, 1 Dhauntiyal Devta - seen first
2 Tapovans - seen 1
2 Kotis - seen both
2 Chambas - seen the UA one, HP one overdue
2 Baijnaths, seen the UA one, HP one overdue
2 Kamands - one in UA (soft 'd' though), one in HP (hard 'd')
2 Ganais - one in UA ('n' as in Ganesh), one in HP
2 Kharapatthars - seen UA one, HP one overdue
2 Rampurs - one in UA, one in HP, but who knows how many more there might be!

In HP
Jadla and Jadli - seen both
Sungra and Sungri - seen first
2 Kotis - seen 1
2 Sainjs - seen 1

This list is by no stretch of the imagination conclusive. In fact more intensive searches will bring up many more numbers of some of the names above, tiny villages tucked away where no roads and no tourists go. E.g. the names Kanda and Koti are used indiscriminately across the hills. And who knows how many of the generic Do Sarkas and Kainchi Mors exist.

And this list doesn't even include names which are very similar - Thaldeval, Devalthal and Devalgarh, Deval (De-vaal), Maletha and Malethi (different 'th' sounds), various combos of Garur, Chaubatiya and Chaubatiyakhal (not to be confused with Chirbatiyakhal ), Gangani and Gangnani, Taluka and Takula, various combos of Pipal (-dali, -pani, -koti).......the list is practically endless.

DW, you missed Seraghat

There is a Seraghat (or Sheraghat) when you climb down from Dhaulchinna towards the bottom of the valley, on the way to Berinag/Chaukori.

Then there is a Seraghat a little ahead of Madkot on the Munsyari Jauljibi route, next to the Gori Ganga river.
