The sacred heights of Uttaranchal - Roopkund

Trekking in the mountains of Uttaranchal is a spiritual experience, every trekker will agree. This area has numerous sacred temples of mythological importance, rich forests of Deodar, Cypress, Pines etc. lush verdant valleys, green rolling meadows carpeted with alpine flowers, brooks & mighty rivers & towering over these are the galaxy of peaks, Nanda devi, Trishul, Dunagiri, Changabang, Kamet, Nilkanth, Chowkhamba, Sri Kanth, Bandarpoonch, etc.
Among many destinations here Rookpkund the "mystery lake" draws the adventure & nature lovers. Situated at 4778m in the lap of the Trishul Massif it is known for the mystery surrounding the finding of human skeletons horses around it. The emerald lake is set in an incredible background & a photographer will probably go berserk with joy! The colours change with passing time.
Although a shorter route is available I suggest taking the route through the fantastic Bedni Bugyal.
The route is Debal - Barigad(5Km) - Mundoli(1.5Km) - Lohajung(1Km) - Bedni Bugyal(10 Km). If you have a tent camp here.
Bedni - Bistola(8Km) - Roopkund(5Km) - Jyurighati dhar(5Km) - Homikund(8Km) - Sutole(18Km)
The weather near Roopkund can change suddenly. I strongly recommend taking a porter cum guide. Look out for one at Nandpryag. I dont know what is the scene now but in older days no guide /porter was available beyond Nandpryag.

NOT POSSIBLE and SAFE in MARCH. This is high altitude and trek near KALUA BINAYAK is all snowbounded and steep. A little bit disturbance in weather and you can find yourself trapped there.

DO NOT TRY THIS IN MARCH !
