Rocking in the mountain
Naukuchiatal a quiet sylvan retreat is situated up in the Himalayas. The resort here owned by Sri Mahendra Verma had been changing in to a mini rock festival on many week ends for the last 4 years. Started as the brain child of Sri Adit Dave & a few music lovers, the Lake side Jam has gained huge popularity. The music is to pay homage to Lenon, Clapton, Dylan, Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Gratefuldead, New Riders of the Purple Sage etc. mainly the '60s & the 70's. Both professional & ameteur musicians jam together & the listeners dance away the night around a bonfire.
You can also ramble in the orchards of Plums & Apricots, watch Himalayan birds. This place can be reached from Kathgodam the gateway to Kumaon. A taxi ride from Kathgodam to this place is about Rs.300/ |

Wow! sounds cool! I plan to be in that area next year trekking. You must let me know what time of year they have these partys, as I play guitar myself and would love to go there and jam with some people!

Ananda,
You can call this number (05942) 247183/84 to find out the dates. Otherwise I will find out & let you know when you are here. Normally the old music lovers from Delhi get in touch with Mr.Verma & fix up the dates. We have a grey haired executive who sings Dylan songs & a white haired & bearded friend of mine who plays Hendrix numbers & that is the time when the local populace turns up. We also have a piano man & his wife who do Simon & Gurfunkel. |

Sounds interesting, what are the options if one wants to visit not specifically for the music festival?

Mridula,
Even if you are not particularly interested in the music part of it the place is very good for a longish week end, beautiful walks, orchards & many other activities. Regards. |

if not specifically for the rock show - u can stay put on nainital. if u r looking for cheap places, then the kmvn tourist rest centre should be a good option. the hotels r too expensive. in nainital u can check the town and its charming mkt. or u can go to places like the raj bhavan (my fave place, and it was just next to my school)
, snow view, kilbury (tough trek).u can also visit places like bhimtal, naukuchiatal, sattal (the most beautiful lakes r here), ranikhet (beautiful orchards, cherry trees, etc), mukteshwar, almora, binsar....phew. leaves u with many many many options i guess ![]()
