Smile Ranikhet trip - Suggestions needed

HI friends

I will be travelling to Ranikhet with my wife in the first week of March. Can anyone suggest what are the best modes of reaching there from Lucknow. What is the best mode of travelling from Kathgodam - Taxi or Bus.. and what are the fares like?

Suggestions on the best places to visit in and around Ranikhet are also welcome. I am looking for peaceful and scenic places abundant in natural beauty.

hi

hey ,
well it depends on your budget i would suggest take a taxi from kathgodam to ranikhet and also make sure you visit this place called dwarso 17 kms ahead from ranikhet and off road u have to ealk around 1 km to the forest and then you will find cottages which are on lease and very economical its a beautiful walk after those cottages deep into the forest im sure u wil love it .
n joy

Take the 3019 Bagh Express to Kathgodam (dep 00.41, arr 09.30). Or if the times are not convenient take a train to Rampur, from where u can take any of 3 trains, all with odd departure times though.
From KGM either hire a taxi for yourself, or take a share-taxi.

Hi Anurag,

Take Nainital Express from Lucknow, which goes upto Lalkuan. It reaches Lalkuan at about 5:00 AM. You can take either take Ranikhet Express (at 5:30 AM) to reach Kathgodam or a taxi/bus to Ranikhet.

I would suggest that you go by train upto Kathgodam, and then take a taxi/bus from there. There are many places to see in Ranikhet - a golf course, sheetla mata temple, chaubatia gardens. You can also plan to go to Binsar and Kausani, which are near by and good place.

Cheers

Nitin

You have planned at a good time.
My personal suggest are as below.
There are two below trains from lucknow to kathgodam
BAGH EXPRESS
NAINITAL EXPRESS

I would suggest u to take a train that drops u at kathgodam.
Walking distance from kathgodam is KMVN TRC.U can have some relaxation over there. TRC people can help u to book a cab for Ranikhet costing around 800 to 1000 bucks.
If u are budget conscious u can go by shared taxi for which u can go by shared taxi from kathgodam by taking auto.It will cost around Rs80 to 100 /person .going to taxi stand will take around 10 mins only.
It will take 2/3 hrs to reach ranikhet .
I will suggest u to go by hiring a cab as u can stop in between at bhimtal and kainchi temple.
There are two routes which finally meet at bhowali. After that only one route is there.(1 is kathgodam –bhimtal- bhowali- ranikhet and other kathgodam –joilikot-bhowali-ranikhet)
The most reasonable accommodation is KMVN only. There r 3 TRC’s of KMVN in ranikhet of which my personal favourate is Kmvn chilianaula reason being its location from where u can see Himalayan range in 120 degrees. The second one is in mall road ranikhet which is also at a good location, the reason being it’s surrounded by lush green forests. Its good for people who wanna stay between nature can also see some view as there is a view point build over there. The third one is in town and I won’t suggest u to stay there.
U can take a tourist guide map from the KMVN guest house itself.
If u r planning a trip for more then 2 days in ranikhet then u can visit other places like kausani chaukori etc which I think u should visit too.
Enjoy the trip and give the reviews back.
Me too is planning for Nainital in February.

feb and march are the best times of the year to get a beautiful uninterrupted view of the snowy peaks of the himalayas...

and do check out the apple orcahrds at chaubatia and the bhalu dam - which is a couple of kilometres trek down from chaubatia.
