Pilgrimage trip to Uttarakhand
Hi All
I am planning a trip to Uttarakhand for my parents in late May. Please suggest an Itinerary. Time is not a constraint and They would like to cover all relegiuos places in Uttarakhand (Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Haridwar, Rishikesh please add if I miss some place). How many days will it take? and please also suggest sequence of places. Things to take with, advance booking (if needed) etc. They will start from Allahabad. regards and Thanks in Advance ! |

This is peak pilgrim rush time in Uttarakhand. Accomodation and all other resources will be streched beyond their limits. Independent travel becomes very difficult as transports and accomodations are all booked by operators. I would suggest getting in touch with GMVN and check out their packages. Delhi tourism also operates tours.

Hi,
You can try out the Kainchi temple built by neem karori baba. It is a truly wonderful spot. Another good suggestion would be to visit the Narayan ashram, near Dharchula. They would be different from the other pilgrimage spots like Char dham and Panch kedar, as they will not be getting an influx of visitors and are not commercialised. Kainchi temple is pretty simple to reach. From Kanpur, just go to Lucknow. Catch the night train (nainital express) from lucknow to kathgodam. From kathgodam, you can go to Kainchi (by just hopping on to any taxi/bus going in the Almora direction). but if you want to visit the char dham, then it would be best to visit in this order: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath.

In Gahrwal the main ones are so called Char Dham - Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedar and Badri, so called beacuse the original chardhams are the 4 corners of India - Rameshwaram, Puri, Dwaraka and Badri. Haridwar to Hardiwar - this would take 10 days. The others are Panch Kedar - Kedarnath (14 km trek), Tungnath (4 km trek) Kalpanath (8-10 km trek), Madhyamaheshwar (20-22 km trke), Rudranath (20 km trek). Haridwar to Haridwar this will take 15-17 days. All trek distances are one way. Panch Badri - most can be done by car and not too much trek involved. Others are atleast 2 days for HAridwar and mandirs around 1 day for Rishikesh. There are many Devi temples - some of them are Dhari Devi, Surkanda Devi, Chandrabadani, Anusuya devi etc. Gharwal is called Dev Bhumi - your parents can spend 2 months there and still miss out on some of the temples... Oh just forgot Trijuginarayan ![]() |
