I know what Vedanta is, and I know what meditation is. But: Can you tell us what Vedanta Medi(t)ation is? In other words: ...what you expect?

Here's a good place to try;
http://www.parmarth.com/home.html
It's the biggest Ashram in Rishi& & is by the side of the Ganges in the Swargashram area, they perform Ganga Aarti here every evening which is a wonderful thing to attend.

You can contact them via email through their website. KK

Vedanta meditation

Hi,

What I'm looking for is an ashram which teaches about Advaita Vedanta philosophy (non dualism) and the practice of mediation connected to this philosophy and possibly yoga aswell.

Thanks

Annie

Thanks

Thankyou for your recommendations and links to other sites on Advaita. They will be thoroughly explored - and hopefully experienced!

Om Shanti!

Other ashrams in Rishikesh which also teach what you are looking for, are the Sivananda Ashram and the Ved Niketan Ashram. the latter has meditation cells in the basement of the main building. Bring meditation cushion and moskito net (best the hanging type).

some info here
Golden Triangle + Rishikesh (November)

and here

Searching for an ashram in Uttar Pradesh

plus here

Pranayama... leaving in 2 weeks!

A day at Ved Niketan costs 150 Rs, in not very clean rooms overlooking the Ganga. The cooler ones in the hot season are in the back part of the large compound. it is better to stay in Ved Niketan than in Sivananda Ashram; while in the latter, you are not supposed to go outside to look for other instruction, while in Ved Niketan you are free to do as you like. An enthousiastic teacher is available for yoga, cosmology and meditation classes at Ved Niketan. Some experienced yoga practitioners are seen practising there in long retreats. Also Ved Niketan has the better, quieter location than Sivananda Ashram. But it is worthwhile to visit the residing Swami at Sivananda Ashram for instruction, as friends told me.

thanks :)

Thankyou for your suggestions.

Plans are now starting to form in my mind but I think I'll make the final decision when I reach Rishikesh after I have a feeling of the place itself and the possible ashrams to go to.

Thanks alot for all your help

Annie
