Mumbai - Badrinath - Mumbai (in 8 days by Train, Bus...??)

Hi,

I belong to Mumbai.

I'm planning to visit Badrinath & Back with my family (Six, with two kids & two senior citizens)

Would like to leave Mumbai on 1st night of Oct 08 and should be back to Mumbai latest by 9th Oct 08 (late night).

Could any one help me in planning the best possible tour within this time span by Train, Bus, car. So that any reservations for travel/accommodation can be booked well in advance.

I have no other plan of visit during this tour.

Thanks in advance.

urmy.

I have the foll alteration to offer to Avid's plan:

Oct 3 - after rest and looking around Haridwar, I wud get moving towards Shrinagar, to avoid a punishing bus trip the next day, specially with kids and seniors along.
Oct 4 - In case of arrival at Joshimath before 4.30 pm, it wud be worth it to keep going to Badrinath for night stay. Accom on the spot will not be a problem.
Oct 6 - For same reasons as above, try to move further downstream, between Birahi and Karnprayag.
Oct 7 - Night bus? , specially if the day was spent bussing Joshimath to Haridwar. Night-train, with......
Oct 8 - .....a later train to Mumbai, since the deadline is 9th night.

Thx Avid & Dilliwala for a quick response. Due to out of place, I could not acknowledge immd.

Avid's simple & basic plan cud make me realise, yes we can make it, who was not aware of the route at all. Dilliwala's later alteration was an aditional boost to think for further modifications, who has Well taken care of all the members.

To Avid:

Oct 4. Can I reach Joshimath before 4 pm to move further to Badrinath on the same day ? Is the road open to go up?

Oct 7. Which is the train available at night from Haridwar to reach Hazrat Nizamuddin by afternoon so that i can get 2910 Garib Rath on Oct 8 at 1550 hrs?

To Dilliwala:
Oct 3 - Get moving towards Shrinagar..Cud u pls. explain further..?

Oct 4 - If I reach Joshimath before 4.30 pm, can i arrange for for badri & return tickets to delhi as suggested by Avid?

Oct 7 - Cud u pls. suggest some night train to reach delhi by next day afternoon?

Haridwar - Joshimath - Badri - Joshimath - Haridwar

Please suggest some good travel agent/s who can cover all the above and Mana/Birahi/Karnprayag. (from Haridwar by bus/car..)
Can I book these bus/car tickets from Mumbai or online in advance?

thx & regds,

Urmy.

Certainly Yes, provided you have moved upto Srinagar on 3rd as per Dilliwala'a advice. Srinagar is a small town in Garhwal, NOT the Kashmir Capital.

Urmy, Avidbhai has already given the info, to which I'll just add:

1. It will be no problem to get buses or taxis from Haridwar/Rishikesh to Shrinagar in the afternoon. Shud take 3-4 hours depending on whether you have to change at Rishikesh.

2. You don't really need a travel agent, all they will do is charge extra commission for something you can do yourself. We can point you to the relevant threads re arranging transport, but whatt is your preferred mode of travel, bus or taxi/car?

3. Since your return train is at 15.50, I will suggest the Mussoorie Express so that you can get a full night's sleep!
Of course then you have the extra cost of getting to NZM station.

Draft Plan...!

Thx Avid & Dilliwala.

Now I'm clear about Shrinagar.

So, my draft plan would be:

Oct 01=> 21:25 Dep Mumbai by Mumbai Central Amritsar Golden Temple Mail (2903)

Oct 02=> 18:35 Arr. HNZ.
Oct 02=> 23:25 Dep. HZN by Nizamuddin Dehradun AC Express (2205)

Oct 03=> 03:55 Arr. Haridwar (Night Halt & Local tour next day)

Oct 04=> 04:30 Dep. Haridwar by Bus/Taxi. to Joshimath, Badrinath, Mana, Shrinagar, Rishikesh (optional). (Three night halts, 4th, 5th & 6th of Oct)

Oct 07=> 18:00 Arr. Haridwar (back)
Oct 07=> 23:20 Dep. Haridwar by Mussorie Exp dep (4042)

-OR-

Oct 08=> 00:30 Dep. Haridwar by DDN NZM A/c Exp (2206)

Oct 08=> 07:20/05:10 Arr. DEL/HNZ.
Oct 08=> 15:50 Dep. HNZ by Nizamuddin Bandra (T) Garib Rath Express (2910)

Oct 09=> 08:05 Arr. Bandra Term (Mumbai)

I needed suggetions for having single mode of transport either bus or taxi/car from Haridwar to Joshimath-Badri-Joshimath & back to Haridwar. This is just to save time and if possible, visit more places within this span, like Shrinagar, Rishikesh (just guessing...!!).

Need suggetions pls..

Regds,

Urmy
