Cool May trip to Munsiyari

Hi all,
i'm off to Kumaon again, this time its Munsiyari.
The brief itinerary is:
May 13 -
Leave from Delhi at 5 A.M and reach Binsar in afternoon.
May 14 -
Leave Binsar in the morning and reach Munsiyari in afternoon (8 hrs. drive)
May 15 & 16 -
Stay in Munsiyari
May 17 -
Leave Munsiyari in the morning and reach Ranikhet in the afternoon.
May 18 -
Leave for Delhi.

My questions are:
1. Is the trip too rushed, i cant afford any more leaves.
2. My mode of travel would be a hired small car(Indica)
3.Stay options, i have stayed in KMVN Munsiyari before so i would like to know about other options like wayfarer and zara resorts from people who have stayed there.
4. What is the status of eateries nowadays apart from your own hotel.(I went there a few years back).
5.Short treks apart from Darkot and Daranti villages mehsar tal and Munsiyari Bugyal.
6.Himalayan views in May as usually Himalayas is not visible from hill stations at this time but Munsiyari is closer to the ranges.
7. Purchasing pashmina shawls and their price.

Thanks in advance
Rishabh

We stayed at Munsyari on 24 & 25 February, 2008. We stayed at Pandey lodge which is at the heart of the town, below KMVN lodge. Less costly. The owner, Puran C. Pandey is a very nice person. Also, there is an eatery which is very near, serves good food (particularly bengali dishes) at reasonable price.

Also, u may consider Dinapani instead of Binsar.

If hiring an indica, I would take the overnight train delhi to haldwani and hire it there.

Delhi/Binsar is possibile in one day but will be a little tiring. Plus, the good parts start well after Haldwani.

Enjoy yourself.

Hi captain,
i have been to Binsar twice and i have managed to reach Binsar in 9-10 hours. My question is about the route as the route via Rampur, rudrapur was in bad shape when i last visited the area so i took the moradabad - bazpur-Darhial -Kaladhungi route. I wanted to confirm whether the main national highway is still in bad shape or is it better.

1. If you have limited leave, why are you going the long way? Take the straight route and stay in Almora or Dhaulchhina.
2. Fine.
3. travel to the uttaranchal
4. Didn't eat there, but Zara's restaurant looked decent. Otherwise there's the usual dhabas and chomin sentars in the bazar.
5. If Munsyari bugyal is the meadow approached past/above the ITBP camp, that's a nice walk. Nanda Devi temple too.
6. I guess Panchchuli shud be visible early morning.
7. Kumaon trip ..need help

EDIT:

Which route shud i take

moradabad - bazpur-Darhial -Kaladhungi route or the usual NH route. I wanted to confirm whether the main national highway is still in bad shape or is it better. I'd just booked wayferer loghuts for rs. 1200 per day.

Ah, forgot that part. Have edited previous post, see above.

The only time I did Bazpur onto Manpur-Darhial-Moradabad 4 years ago it (the UP section) was in atrocious condition. In Aug '05 I went to Nainital via Rampur-Swar-Manpur onto Bazpur/Kaladhungi, which was better but not great.
I'd love an update myself on both roads.

Hi dilliwala,
i took the Rampur-kathgodam road in oct 07 and it was in bad shape, while returning i took the kaladhungi-baazpur road which was in excellent condition. The Rampur road is better now as a KMVN staff told me. By the way i have cancelled wayfarer and booked KMVN for Munsiyari.

It was in '04 too. That's becos that section is not in UP.
The rest of the way was so bad, that we literally didn't cover more than 20 km in an hour.
Pity really, becos it's actually the shortest way to get to Nainital from here.
Maybe things have improved though. I just did Saharanpur-Shamli-Baghpat to Delhi last week after almost 4 years and the road has improved out of sight (except in Loni).

I wud be taking the Rampur road, if it isnt fine then i'd try the alternate route while coming back.

Any other short hikes apart from Darkot and Daranti villages mehsar tal and Munsiyari Bugyal. How about Khalia top?

I was there in April end; roads are not great as in some places there is 4 laning underway but at the sametime there was no problem. Got stuck at Garh Muketshwar for a couple of hrs due to it being a scared day and people thronging to take a dip in Ganga

With those kinds of throngs I'd be scared to take a dip.
