Train to Haridwar/Rishikesh. Car/Bus from there to Okhimath. Beautiful hill drive up the Bhagirathi first and then up the Alokananda upto Rudraprayag which is the confluence of the Mandakini and the Alokananda rivers. Well worth a stop at this place. There is a Kali Kamliwalla dharmsala spartan but clean and well located directly over the confluence. A cave called Kotishwar exists near the confluence, where spirals of water have cut away the limestone leaving hundreds of Shivlings in the cave. This is a bus terminus also. An early morning bus will take you to Okhimath from where you will have to start walking past places called mansuna, Lenkh, Bantoli and finally after a steep climb to Madhmashwar. Wonderful walk. There is a kali kamliwalla dharmshala there too. Bitterly cold. Approximately 30 km of walking. Places to spend the night in between. No need to book in advance. these are all villagers huts.

Yes Gopa nice description. The water of Alaknanda & Mandakini are of different colours, the mixing of these at Rudraprayag is awsome... watch a sunset here. Dont miss spending a day at Chopta in this region. you have described the climb to Madh maheswar as steep, it is but can be quite tiring. It seems you are quite a trekker.

Smile Madhmaheshwar and Chopta

Thanks Jyotirmoy. It would be more correct to call me a traveller than a trekker. I love the Himalaya experiences and have a storehouse of them having spent every vacation for years up there. Yes I am familiar with Chopta and Tunganath. Been there three times. Mangal Singh chotiwalla at Chopta has become a friend over the years. And I enjoy encouraging others to go for the experience. Good to find someone a like minded spirit.
