"Inns"!? In a hurry, so I don't dig into my photos, but I think the name of the hotel cum restaurant was Clark's. They were proud to be the only place in M licensed to serve beer.

Goodness gracious me, as we desis say - is the word 'inn' so hard to understand as referring to the GHs in question? I didn't mean it to be taken literally as places also providing booze.

Ha-ha. No, Dilliwala, I understood that you meant the guest houses and their owners - legal status, erm, hmm?

I've been thinking about possible weekend trips from Landour. Is it possible to make one weekend trip to Haridwar and another to Rishikesh? I think it is. I don't want to study every weekend! (Or maybe I should ponder these questions in the other Landour thread...)

Yes, that'll be better to maintain continuity. I'll answer there.

Sometimes access to the internet in Landour is difficult. Just call them if it's urgent, or be patient.

Must be a server between Finland and Landour that doesn't like me - or my emails to the school. My friend in India is able to email the school!

The gossip about H---b doesn't surprise me at all -- he was such a sleazebag when I was there. He asked me out (in Hindi), even though he knew I was married, and he had a very bad reputation.

Can't speak highly enough of the Hindi tuition at Landour though, whether you're there for a week or three months.[/quote]

this message is in reply to your email about habib. i was a student at the school last year and habib kept making passes at me too. he knows that i like nature and he kept asking me if he could take me out to the beautiful sites in and around landour. i had a feeling that he was coming on to me during every class. i'm glad that i didn't go with him.

I am curious to know when you were there and when this was taking place as I am also a student at LLS, and have Habib as a teacher...

1973. His "lessons" consisted of approximate "translations" of the newspaper texts that our Swedish teacher supplied. Too hurried, no effort at all to address any grammar points, a surprising meagre knowledege of any not too common words in the texts. Sometimes, I doubted that he'd read the text before appearing to class. His probably ridiculously low pay is no excuse. Some others managed to an astronomically higher level.

Merry - I took a look at the website - took far too long to open anything but I saw the front page, what is supposed to be The School - only pictures, the title and naming of teachers. It was enough to convince me this is the work of a very immature person. I also thought the naming of teachers a very cruel and superficial way to attract attention. The Hindi words learned are so minimal, the author is wasting his/her time posting them and was a useless page. If this is the product of several months work at the Language School it says to me the author was not there to learn Hindi.
I have never been to the Language School but have stayed long enough in Landour and Mussoorie, interacting with students there
who are attending. The 'feedback' in conversation has always been 'it is good'. These people are hardworking, doing their homework and progressing very fast. Their knowledge of Hindi is far more than the list of words posted here. (In other words you just wouldn't bother posting a list of words - refer someone to a good Hindi dictionary instead!) I think this is a rather unfortunate website to refer people. If I was contemplating going to a Language School and saw this ridiculous link, I wouldn't give it two thoughts or change my mind!

The tone used in this site is immature and hurtful; it makes the authors arguments even less credible.
