Kuari Pass: Information Needed
We are planning to trek through Kuari pass around June 10. We would start from Auli.
I wish to know if it would rain a lot at this time? Also if it is possible to hire mules or pony on this route. I can walk long distances but I am quite bad at walking with a lot of weight. Anything else that you feel is important to know before this trek, please let me know. |

Thanks Raju, but can one hire mules on thi route or not? That is my biggest worry, as I am not very good at walking with a lot of weight.

Mules
Yes, It is no problem to hire mules at Auli. Should cost you about 150-200 Rs. per day. You can also hire porters, though that is probably done better at Joshimath.
It should not rain around June 10 (I mean, no sustained rain). Occassionally, at these heights, it always rains. Regards |

D/ Mridula;
Best place for Hiring Mules/Porters/Guides is Joshimath for the trek. I would advise you to start trek from Tapovan(Near Joshimath) after visiting the Hot Water Spring there. Although Samir is right but at some places (Khullara/ Gurson Bugyal/ and the Pass) rain can create problem as there is no natural shelter/ Camping place. Two years before when I trekked the Pass, one group from Kolkata faced tough time as there camp is completely washed away. Keep good rain gear with you. Further looking towards your passion for walk, I advise you to continue the trek towards Roop Kund which can be completed in the same route. (It was in News recently that Roop kund may disappear due to cracks in it). Himadventure and Avid may give you fair idea about the trek. Happy Outdoor |

Thank you all. Why can't one get permit without local travel agents? I have never heard such a thing before.
