Haridwar to Gangotri transport

Can anyone give an impression on the transport services available from Haridwar to Gangotri?

Is there any direct bus service from Haridwar that starts early and can reach in evening? Or I need to go to Rishikesh to catch it? What are the approx timings and the cost? Where to contact?

If a car is booked (small car to 2-3 passengers, available?) then also what will be the cost?

Thanks in advance.

Can anyone give any contact no.s of some travel agents in Haridwar?

Irrespective of whether or not there is a direct bus from Haridwar to Gangotri, I suggest everybody to catch a direct bus from Rishikesh to Gangotri (248 kms). All buses from Risahikesh to the last road heads to chardham starts from 4.00 a.m. onwards from Garhwal Motor Owners' Association Bus Stand at Rishikesh. The normal journey period from Rishikesh to Gangotri is around 10 hours. If you are going in rainy season, you may have to provide for likely loss of time due to possible landslides. There may be a bus from Uttaranchal Road Transport Corp Bus Stand from Rishikesh but most probably, it may go up to Uttarkashi.

I don't have much idea about the car cost. You can hire a car either from Haridwar or Rishikesh.

Its a few years since I did that trip by bus, but with the numbers of
people going that way I cant think the routine would have changed much

Haridwar bus stand, there are 2, for the yatra is the one next to the
'river', non existent except monsoon time, busses leave early morning
and get there mid afternoon ish.

I seem to recall getting a seat booked the night before.

Its a lovely route

We reached Uttarkashi about noon

From Haridwar, there are buses at 7.30 am and 9.30 am to Maneri, via Uttarkashi - if HW administration's website is correct.

Stay away from buses

I personaly dont advice using buses on these routes.
It can be very horrible journey in those terrible GMOU buxses.

I always prefer shared Jeeps.. I will be doing the same when I leave for Gangotri later this month.

In Rishikesh,, near Natraj hotel, you can find lots of Sumo lined up for Uttarkashi.. I normally take those Sumo.. take a short break in Utttarkashi for lunch.. and then push off for Gangotri in another shared jeeep.

It cost slighly more(probably an extra 50Rs per person) but much more comfy that those GMOU buses...

Haridwar Gangotri Transport

Hi

Buses from Rishikesh start early morning [ 4 am] and reachex Gangotri around 4 pm.

From Haridwar it is difficult to reach Gangotri on the same day if you are travelling in a Bus. Do not know whether there are buses which start from Haridwar and reached Gangotri on the same day.

Shared taxi is not so popular in this area, but will be there.

About Taxi

For a Qualis Rishikesh people take 2500 Rs. per Day [varies according to Season demand] Sumo, Qualis cost from Delhi and Haridwar will be higher than this.

You can contact Rajesh Bardwal [Rishikesh] - 0983 7077122- who is a travel operator. My friend used his service and said that he is reasonable. He can suggest you stay facility which cost around 400 Rs for a good Double Room in almost all points in the Garwal area.

If possible he will arrange a share taxi seat in a jeep.
