Gwaldam- Tibetan settlement
I've read a little, in LP + RG, about a Tibetan settlement not far from Gwaldam. Has anyone got any info? How far is it from Gwaldam itself? Is it a half day trip? Is there any accommodation, and if there is, what's it like? Has anyone been there? Impressions?

In 1991, I'm pretty sure it was in Gwaldam
( Foggy memory) I was walking and came upon a small Tibetan community.Stopped in and talked a bit with some nice people. Back then it was small. Don't know about accommodation or anything, but I know I walked there from the Government Rest House where I was staying. Sorry I could'nt be of more help. ![]() |

Shud have seen this earlier, went to Gwaldam in July.
Yes, the settlement is practically in Gwaldam, about 1 km before the main bazar, when coming from Karnprayag/Tharali. There's a little temple there, visible from the bazar. It's actually more of a Bhotia settlement, I met one man in the bazar, but I think there are some Tibetans also. Cudn't visit due to lack of time. Accommodation is very limited. There's the GMVN guest house, and a new private hotel which opened this year. |
