Hi All,
I have a buisness trip scheduled for mid-July to Dehra Dun. I will have 2 days free for sightseeing. As I have never been to this part of the world, I would really like to see the Himalyas. I realize that I do not have the time do do any real mountain trekking. My question is; can anyone recommend a nice mountain (foothills)day hike from either Mussoorie or Rishikesh? As long as I have your attention, how about hotel recommendations in either location? Thanks in advance for your assistance. |

The season is not right for a trek/hike at Mussoorie. However, the place itself affoards plenty of opportunities for long walks. The Camel's back road offers a short but wonderful walk.
You may also walk from Mussoorie to a place called Childer's Lodge, which is approx. 6 km. away. A longer and more arduous walk is to Kempty Falls, 15 km. from Mussoorie. Lodging at Mussoorie - You haven't mentioned your budget, but recommended hotels are : Padmini Nivas, Honeymoon Inn and Kasmanda Palace. Here you will have the sole advantage of the season : hefty discounts on room tariffs!!

Hi jddfdd !
if you are in d.dun in July......Mussorie is a great place to visit...try and get to the top of the hill...a place called Sisters Bazaar...there are quite a few good places to stay in...a place called Devdhar woods belongs to a local and since its off season you should get a good discount....food is good too...the area is nice for misty walks in the rain...if you get lucky one of the locals will take you for a strenuous walk to his village...check out his credentials before you go though! enjoy! |

I'm in Mussoorie right now.
You won't get any discount at Dev Dar Woods. It is from 350 Rs all year round no concessions but ask for food to be included, they do include food in your 350 Rs if you ask and the food is very good. |

I am looking for someone who has had personal experiences with the region. FYI, I have lived there for more than 6 years in an Apartment. Just that I am looking for something different which someone had experienced and probably I left out. I have been thru all the posts on all 30+ pages in the Hotels and Lodging area including the three pages to the Off Beat Trail area on this forum. I have seen almost all the hotels in DDN/Mussoorie. What I am looking for is some cozy homestay accomodation to laze around. Last edited by Dilliwala : Aug 11th, 2008 at 02:57. Reason: merge posts |
