Dhaunalti to Mussoorie is a beautiful drive anytime of day!
Don't want to state the obvious but be careful - mountain roads always demanded full attention from those negotiating her curves. Take it easy. Why not consider camping in Dhaunalti? Its will be chilly at night, but with a tent and sleeping bag you should be fine. This way you can enjoy the music late into the night and a few extra beers aswell! Enjoy your trip. |

Chamba-Dhanolti is 31 km. Muss-Dhanolti is 25 km. Delhi-Dhanolti is shorter via Muss. If u want to drive straight to Dhanolti without going into Muss town, u can save another 2-3 km and a lot of traffic. Coming up from Dehradun, when u see the large sign/gateway for Hotel Jaypee Manor on your right (about 6-7 km before the town), take the UPPER of the 2 roads. Do NOT go thru the gateway on the lower road. The upper road will take u to Bataghat, from where the Muss road will join up on your left. Thereafter straight (figuratively speaking - u are in the hills) to Dhanolti.
If the driver is good (read careful), there are no real dangers either day or night. It's not a fast road and has many curves, don't try to speed just to save 5 mins, and u'll be there before u know it. Espesh in the dark, ensure the driver (you?) does not have even a drop of alcohol in him! Not that I recommend drink-n-drive in the daytime - u'll be surprised how little it takes for judgement to be impaired in the hills. Better to sleep it off in Dhanolti as zwala suggests. If u do wish to come back to Muss, make sure of one thing - that u have accom confirmed! It's the high season and u will go crazy if u try to start looking for it at midnite, or u'll be at the mercy of touts - avoid them like the plague. Accom at Dhanolti is available in plenty but as at Muss needs to be confirmed well in advance. It might be expensive too, what with the summer and the rock fest, etc. zwala's suggestion of a tent and sleeping bag is a verrry good one - at least keep em on standby in case of emergency. I shud mention I read the organiser's report of last year's fest and by his own account things get chaotic. Scout's motto - be prepared! Other than that, go and enjoy yourself. |
