Hi Preethi,

I have shared the info related to Nilgiris + Few photos over here. ( Post#4 )

Coorg - Coonoor Itinerary

General info :-

1. Try to book "Blue mountain express" upto Mettupalaiyam. From Mettupalaiyam, you could board the toy train to ooty [ You could reserve well in advance and First class is best for Views]

You could read through and Please post if you need more info !

Hi pmvelu,

Thanks for the reply... I thought no body is going to help me, as there was no reply for 24hrs...

I booked FC tickect in toy train and Nilgiri exp from chennai...

Hi All,

Now i need the following help,

1. A good, decent hotel to stay, actually we are planing for 3 night and 4days, including toy train journey (I can afford 1000 for a night, is that enough?)

2. Is 3 night and 4 night enough for all fun...

3. What about CAB??? Is it safe and easy to hire some one there or shall i book it with Tamilnadu tourism in chennai itself???

Thanks in advance for all...
Pls help...

My Comments inline Preethi

1. A good, decent hotel to stay, actually we are planing for 3 night and 4days, including toy train journey (I can afford 1000 for a night, is that enough?)

You Could try out Booking "Hotel Tamilnadu" , Ooty which is comfortable / Budget /Safety / Nice Scenic Location just in Heart of ooty [ Read Charring Cross].. You could go directly to "Wallahjah Road" in chennai [ Take Right after Santhi theatre if you come from South Or Central Chennai ] and within 1 km , this Tourism office is there .. Here you could specify your need like "First Floor" Or Second Floor Etc Or else you could try out reserving in ttdconline.com [They will just book the room and no preferences could be give] and we stayed twice here in "deluxe Double room " and it's worth and for Food, get to Charring Cross as the restaruant over here has no much varieties.

2. Is 3 night and 4 night enough for all fun...

Sufficient . 1 Day ooty Trip , 1 Day Coonoor Trip, 1 Day you could try out Mudumalai Or Bandipur [Plains if at all if you are interested in wildlife] Or could just relax in ooty itself may be by repeating a trip to "doddabetta" or "lake"

3. What about CAB??? Is it safe and easy to hire some one there or shall i book it with Tamilnadu tourism in chennai itself???

For Standard package [ I mean for Normal Tourist places], You could book the "Local tour" from the Hotel Tamilnadu itself and the package starts from there only Or else you could ask the Receptionist to arrange a car and it's absolutely Safe .. No Issues...

If you want to cover the places in your own pace ,
Botanical Garden, Boating Jetty , Wax Museum, Tree Garden, Rose Garden could very well be reached in auto itself for 20 to 25 rs from Hotel Tamilnadu and for Doddabetta, From ooty bus stand, a Taxi costs 150 Rs [They will wait for 1 to 1 1/2 hours in Doddabetta and drop you back in Hotel Tamilnadu]..

If you need more info, Please post & Have a Nice Trip Ahead !

Hello Preethi
I agree with PMVelu. Hotel Tamil Nadu is best value, especially in off season when they slash their rates. Deluxe rooms are spacious and very clean. You can book online and phone them about your room choice. When you reach, if you dont like the room, insist that they change it. There should not be a problem unless it is full. NB: Eat at restaurants outside as the meals are not great at the TN. Plenty of choice nearby at all budgets.

If you are more than 2 people, you may prefer to take a cab rather than the coach tours. Rent a cab at Ooty itself, they are available at every street corner, you will have to negotiate as they are quite mercenary. Matheen taxi opp the station quotes reasonably to start with.

In addition to the places PMV suggests, you may also enjoy the Pykara lake and falls and the vast meadows in that area. Pykara lake is much better than Ooty lake. You can go a little beyond the main tourist points on the Pykara route and enjoy the same views without the crowds and their attendant litter. If you have more time, do a half day trip to Emeralde lake about 30km away. For this you will need a cab. The Botanical gardens are a pleasant 10min walk from the Tamil Nadu Hotel.

Enjoy your trip and do post your experiences.

Its King Star Confectioners at Charring Cross. Their fudge is far superior to their chocolate. I buy at least 10kg whenever I go there. Wish you had not reminded me about it.

One think PMVelu forgot to tell you is Kothagiri and Kodanadu view point. Kothagiri is a nice place. It has two parks - Nehru park at the centre of the town and one Pandian park - both are nice. Do visit and have a nice, calm , crowd less and enjoyable tourist place.
As for as toy train is concern dont waste 5 to 6 hours from Mettupalayam to OOty. Travel between Ooty to Coonur and Back.

You can plan as below
1. One day trip arround Ooty and Coonur.
2. One day trip to Mudumalai.
3. One trip to Kothagiri
