Travel to/ from Ooty

Thankyou again for helpful replies! Pmvelu, our itinerary is as follows: - Trivandrum - Calicut - Sultan Bathery - Ooty - Palaniappa Tea estate (about 90 mins away from Coonoor & Ooty) - Cochin - Alleppey - Trivandrum. As where we are staying at the tea estate is so remote, I am considering a car as I am not sure whether we will do the whole journey to Fort Cochin in a day, but I would much prefer to use public transport if possible. It is a shame I can't find bus timetables anywhere, the official bus sites do not seem to have this information.

Another question, do buses usually run as normal around the Christmas period? (I assume Xmas Day is a holiday, or is that just in Kerala?)

Your itenary of : Trivandrum - Calicut - Sultan Bathery - Ooty - Palaniappa Tea estate (about 90 mins away from Coonoor & Ooty) - Cochin - Alleppey - Trivandrum looks kind of Circuitous[ Yes Ofcourse you might have planned with some reasons]..

If it's Flexible itenary, My Opinion would be :

Trivandrum -Alleppey-Cochin-[Train to]-Coimbatore Jn [Bus / Cab to]-Mettupalaiyam[Via]-Toy train to Ooty-Palaniappa Estate-Ooty-[Bus/Cab to]-Sulthan Bathery[Bus/Cab to]-Calicut-[Train to]- Trivandrum .

And Again in this Wayanad Part, Not Sure whether You are planning some stay in Sulthan Bathery as nothing much is near Sulthan Bathery [Except the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary] and Much of the Famous and more scenic places are near Kalpetta and Calicut are you Planning it as an Enroute Place or Planning some Sightseeing there ?..[Again Nothing prominent is there near Calicut too ]..If you could tell more on this wayanad and Malabar [ Read Calicut / North Kerala ] parts,I could add my travel experiences on the same !

And For your other Question, Christmas period and Bus timings have no direct relation in Indian context.. So No Problems and Buses will ply as usual !..

1. during day - wud take toy train to conoor(reaches 4pm). then take a bus to coimbatore and bus from coimbatore to cochin. wud reach coimbatore at about 7pm. Wud i get frequent buses to cochin at that time? how long will bus take?
2 taking overningt bus to cochin (will do toy train to conoor in day and back to ooty). are there any overninght bus operators available in ooty?(contacts if you have). will i get a booking once i reach ooty (1 day before departure to cochin)

I haven't tried Coimbatore-Cochin road Journey till now. Try to get to Podanur Jn and get train to Ernakulam Jn which will be a better option. Coimbatore- cochin Direct bus is not that Frequent [I am talking only about KSRTC,TNSTC & SETC [Basically government buses]!

Even 2 weeks back I went to Ooty and indeed Isaw all the Advertisements by travel agencies about Ooty to Trivandrum /Cochin direct buses but many of the names I did not had any travel experience as such. But for sure overnight buses are there. I don't have any contact number but for sure you could get tickets just on the day of travel as FEB is totally off-season !
