Planning To Visit Ooty,kodaikanal

Hi,guyz..I'm new to diz forum...
I'm planning to travel from Mysore to Ooty , and then from Ooty to Kodaikanal...can any 1 give me info regarding the bus fares from Mysore-Ooty and Ooty-Kodai....also,is it better to travel by govt.bus or cabs....can any1 mention the respective fares for bus and cabs...waiting for early replies guyz....

Hello.

Feb/March is probably the best time to visit Kodai.before the tourist season begins. I am not familiar with Kodai. as before, although during the 1990's it was my favourite place in India.

Nowadays it is crowded. Very crowded indeed. I would suggest you take a taxi from Madurai. While in Madurai you might want to take some time to visit the Sri Meenakshi Temple. I remember visiting it years ago and finding it most interesting.

The journey up the mountains to Kodai. is steep and winding with cliff hangers. Be prepared for a few flips of your heart.....

Oh! just noticed you say going from Ooty. It is a long, long drive. Please take a taxi unless you are young and fearless.

Ooty also crowded. The rickshaws are a problem but there are some nice places to visit there.

its a good time to travel .i dont think it will be very crowded then.ooty -kodaikanal is approx 250 in a bus.mysore-ooty is 70-100.you can take a bus in my opinion.but ooty-kodai will be a bit long.

@Iconic,

Not sure when you are planning for this trip. Ooty/ Kodaikanal is most crowded between April 1st until June 15th and the accomodations costs you 1.5 to 2 times of normal rates .

And For your other Question, Mysore to Ooty is around 150 kms [120 kms in cab as cab will take a short cut from mudumalai] which a bus will take 5 hours to cover and by cab it will take around 3.0 hours [ This is due to the fact of Forest Stretch of around 40 kms and this Mysore-ooty highway passes through Bandipur Tiger Reserve & Mudumalai Elephant reserve and also there is 20 kms pathetic road stretch just before bandipur].

For Bus Fares & Bus timings from Mysore to Ooty you could check www.ksrtc.in -- E-Reservations .Just an addition, There are tamilnadu transport buses too in addition to the karnataka government buses.

And For Ooty to Kodaikanal , it's too much to cover in a Day and it's possible & comfortable if you could hire cab but again it will take around 6 hours + . If you would like to cover this in economical & Short way , You could do the following:-

1. Reserve Toy train for Ooty- Mettupalaiyam stretch [ Journey time around 4 1/2 hours. In bus this distance could be covered in 2 1/2 hours max]
2. From Mettupalaiyam ,get Tiruppur bound bus [ Buses are available 1/2 an hour once]
3.From Tiruppur,get bus to Palani [Buses are 15 minutes to 20 minutes once]
4.From Palani, get bus to Kodaikanal [Buses are not available in this Ghat road between 6pm+ until 5 am

Again you could assume around 8 hours + if you follow the above route and if you do it only in bus [ I mean even Ooty to Mettupalaiyam stretch].

My suggestion is, you could break atleast in palani where very famous Murugan temple is there and resume your journey the next day morning [In the first bus around 5.00 am +]
