Ooty or Kodaikanal during mid June?
Hello Everyone,
I am getting married in June this year and at the moment am really confused in zeroing in on a place for my honeymoon.I know this question is pretty common but I really need your help and advice in this.Any opinion/suggestion will be highly appreciated. I am supposed to leave for my honeymoon around 20th June from Bangalore for around 7 days.Initially, I was considering the idea of both Ooty and Kodaikanal(3 days each) but am wondering whether it will lead to too much travel or not?So, if at all I need to select 1 of the above, what should it be and why? Please let me know the kind of weather that we can expect there and which of the two is cooler? Also, will it be a good idea to visit a single place or consider both? Also, which of the two places has more sightseeing spots ?We would basically like to relax for some time in a cool place since it will be a very hectic time for us during the wedding. Looking forward to your response and advices! Thanks!!! |

Remember the monsoon.
I was in Ooty for a few days in early July a couple of years ago. Cold and miserable just about sums up my experience! No views from the mountain peaks: just fog and rain! Coonor, at just a little altitude, was much more pleasant. I don't know Kodaikanal at all, but I think it is both lower, and on the TN side of the mountains, which might make it a much better climactic bet at that time. Somebody who does know will be along... Welcome to the site! |

Yes,its a difficult choice for me! And I am running short of ideas! I needed to know the pros and cons of both the places before making a conscious decision... Hope somebody here will be kind enough with a few words of wisdom! |

wish you a happy married life in ADVANCE,
Ooty is a crowded place, kodai is ok. But if the monsoon starts in june then it might rain in kodai otherwise kodai is far better place to visit and especially newly married couples. As far as the no f places is concerned, kodai has got more. |

Great! Thanks Mr.Kumar. So, can you give me an idea as to which of the two is cooler?
Also, can anyone suggest whether it is better to see both the places or take only one at a time...I mean, will it get hectic? |

Kodai would be a better place for a Honeymoon. My wife & I were there for this special occasion back in 1992 and we got a Honeymoon package at The Carlton. All meals were included (huge quantities & variety) and the hotel threw in a boat ride and a few other things that I don't remember. They even spread rose petals on the bed! This was before the IT boom and the generation of rich, IT yuppies with oodles of dough. It was a very nice place - even had a snooker table by the bar.

I went by bus from Ooty to Kodai - it was a long full day's journey. However I spent 10 days at each place so it didn't bother me. With your time, I would choose one to go to. Ooty of course is not so far away - with monsoon conditions, maybe see what roads, transport at the time is like. Kodai is quite a journey from Bangalore. I second Nick's suggestion of Coonor - it is quieter, picturesque, plenty to see and do there and you can always make day trips to Ooty if the weather fines up - it is not at all far by car, and there's the toy train choice as well.

Coonor is a wonderful place, when we were there about 30 years ago, there were not that many places to stay. I remember driving by Field Marshall Sam Manekshaw's estate. I also agree that if the weather turns good one can go to Ooty further up. The problem is that the weather in both places are quite different, in fact it is hard to say what Ooty would be like even if one were in Coonor and it is a very nice day!
Having said the above, I still feel that since this is a Honeymoon and one would rather not be trekking and taking chances, the Carlton (or similar) package would be the way to go - after all, there are more important things to explore than..... Once the honeymoon is over& out of the way, it is all downhill anyway S**T, I am an optimistic person, how could write that? One can then visit the Niligiris, including Dodapeta.Cheers Nattusbs |

If it helps, and this is, of course, personal...
I found Ooty a miserable place, at least at that time of year. Even the faces of the people seemed to reflect the climate, rather as they do at the end of damp, cold London November leading into an even colder December. I came away wondering how a place that apparently has a half-decent climate for only a couple of months in a year could have become so popular as a destination. I suspect that if it had not been for the British nostalgia for a British climate, it never would have! |

Nice Quote Mr. Nattusbs
But will strive to ensure that the same enthusiasm is maintained throughout...Optimism is always a virtue you see...How about 3 days in Ooty and 3 days in Coonoor??? How does that sound??? Getting the best of both places... Barge in with your thoughts everyone... You are always welcome.... By the way, its nice to see everyone responding and helping me out with their experiences...This is a vibrant group for sure... Last edited by charm.of.life : Mar 22nd, 2009 at 13:00. You seem to keep going back to Ooty
![]() Go to Kodai, find out about The Carlton or other up-scale places that offer "Honeymoon packages" - enjoy the honeymoon and all other moons Shower her with all you have to offer - splurge as this happens (thankfully) only once - make sure she is not on the rag during that week - or else change the dates of travel - drop the icecream and strawberries where you can eat them nicely Mod, sorry, tongue in cheek (omg, not again - no pun intended).Go to Ooty & Coonor some other time. Cheers Nattusbs |
