Ooty In And Around Off Beat Locales & Accommodation
Hi
I plan to spend 15 days in Ooty this summer on vacation, and plan to explore off beat locales in Nilgiris. I would like to have views of the group on the following 1. Listing of offbeat locales like Avalanche, Top Slip [in Valaparai Range] around 50 to 100 kms around Ooty 2. I plan to stay close to Ooty, and I am looking for very good quality Guest Houses / Bungalows with garden with attached cook [I want to avoid Hotels & Resorts] around Ooty, Lovedale, Wellington, Coonoor, or in some of the Tea Gardens in Nilgiris. Shall appreciate receiving suggestions from the group regards KRISHNAN |

Keeping Coimbatore as your starting point, if you look at any reasonable map you will see that Top Slip or Valparai are in a totally different direction from Ooty. These are two altogether different destinations, and based in or around Ooty it is not realistic to expect to see Valparai or Top Slip in a day return trip.
From Top Slip you can go further to Parambikulam and from Valparai you can proceed to Athirampally falls and Chalakudy. From Ooty you can explore the Nilgiris region including Pandalur, Devala, Gudalur, Avalanche, Emeralde, Parsons Valley, Pykara etc etc. Some places require permission which you can get from the NWEA or Forest Dept at Ooty. In summer expect all hotels and lodgings to be full unless booked in advance. Try nilgiris.com or nilgiris.nic.in for listings. You can also call UPASI in Coonoor to get contact details of estate bungalows in various tea gardens. Contact Dacoitchief who lived in the Nilgiris, he may be able to assist with contacts for private bungalows.

Hey everyone!
We need some help to make a quick decision. My husband and I are traveling to Ooty this April end for 3 days. We have 2 choices for hotels- we know we're lucky to have this as all the hotels seemed to be fully booked!- Holiday Inn Gem Park and Sagar Resort. We want this break to be relaxing and romantic (yes, we're newly wed!) and would appreciate it if someone could help us pick the better suited option. Thanks very much! |
