Need a suggestion on places to visit in ooty - Urgent pls

Hi All,

Well jus googled thro' abt ooty and avalanche and got thro ur forum which was really enthusiastic and energetic in the form of great ideas reg travel and tourism. cool !! Let me tell my plan and am ready to take up ur valuable suggestions as I am not very much knowledgeable reg this places but a great nature lover.

My plan:

Total members : 22 (includes women)

Friday Night : Train from Chennai to Coimbatore - Nilgiri exp

Saturday morn : Swaraj mazda cab from coimbatore to ooty.

Sunday : 3PM toy train from ooty to mettupalayam thereafter train to madras.

Well over here, I would like to visit rare spots which can be avalanche or some other non famous place rich of scenic beauty and place to spend some good time. I would be very grateful if u can get me a good list of places as per my plan given above.

Try Masinagudi

Buddy to be frank am not aware of any places in and around ooty. Moreover we got only 1 and half days, would it be enough for us to visit masinagudi? How abt avalanche? Can we make it a one day trip(for the first day) and some tourist spots near ooty(for the second day). We have also blocked hotel rooms in ooty. Please advise..

A nice 2-hour walk on Sunday morning - before it gets hot! - could be Cairn Hill. Cairn Hill is not more than 20 minutes by car from Ooty proper. It is a reserve forest with lots of pine trees and a beautiful walk, a nice way to spend a couple of hours.

Thanks buddy but we are planning for a one day trip to avalanche and it also got confirmed. So can you let us the know the best possible places to visit in and around avalanche in tat single day. Also i heard that we got to getta permission from the forest officers to enter avalanche. Kindly guide us thro this buddy :-) Do you have any contacts?

Kriswap: You will POSSIBLY need permission to go to Avalanche (I don't remember now if that particular part is in the restricted zone!) You need to go to the District Forest Office which is near the Coffee Day and the Collectorate (ask for directions from there). Here there is the NWEA - Nilgiris Wildlife and Environment Association, there is a man there called James who can guide you as to how to get the permit thing done. Do go first thing on Saturday morning - as soon as you reach Ooty.
