I wanna visit the above mentioned places in ooty. Though I am reaching Ooty by Dec 29th, 09 in a Toytrain returning back on 2nd Jan 10 from Coimbatore. I wanna Visit Coonor as well. Please suggest me a best plan to visit all the above mentioned places according to my shedule with Transport facility, Time to spent at the site.

Given below are my suggestions.

29th December 2009, You will reach ooty between 1200 to 1300 hrs. Thats the normal time toy train reaches ooty.

Places Around Ooty
29th December 2nd Half

Botanical Gardens - 10 minutes drive from Bus stand
Ooty Lake & Boat House
The Fernhill Palace, Fernhill - 10 minutes by car from Bus stand
Ooty Golf Links
School, Lovedale - View allowed only from outside.
Doddabetta Peak - Highest Peak - 30 minutes drive from ooty
Try taking a walk from Four road corner to Doddabetta, You will love it)
Pine Forest - Can be covered in local sighseeing.

Places Around Connoor
30th December full day

Ketti Valley - Best view if you walk in the railway tracks from Ketti to Aravangadu
Connoor Golf Links - Can be covered in Connoor local sighseeing
Wellington Army Barracks (Need Prior Permission for a full tour)
SIMS Park - Can be covered in Connoor local sighseeing
Dolphins Nose - Can be covered in Connoor local sighseeing

Rest of the places, I leave the choice to you

Half a day tour around ooty

Pykara Lake Boat House and Pykara falls

Wenlock Downs - Needs trekking

Kamraj Sagar Lake - No idea
Mukurthi National Park - No idea

My personal perception is that you may require not more than 2-3 days for ooty and coonnor.

Probably rest of the time, you can enjoy your stay by just lazing around and shopping.

Dude, How much they charge for a cab for 4ppl to sight visiting at ooty, coonor? Do u have any idea?? We are planing to stay at YWCA....Can I reserve the accomdation in advance?? If yes, How many days before??

All Cab guys will have packages. (Printed phamplets will be avaiable with all the cab drivers)

1st package will cover ooty
2nd Package will cover Connoor
3rd Package will cover Pykara and surroundings
and it goes on like this.

Most probably you can hire a Maruti Omni or a Indica for four of you. They will charge you based on the package you take.

Trust me, Negotiation works. Dont take any cab fellow at the first instance itself. Drop that guy and try someone else.

YWCA will require advance booking and that too you are heading there for a new year's eve. You book it as early as possible.

Also send them a Fax and a written confirmation and make sure they acknowledge it.

could you please tell what would be the fair value charges for the cab/taxi packages as I am very bad at bargaining.
1st package will cover ooty..... is Rs 1200/- OK here
2nd Package will cover Connoor... is Rs 2000/- OK here
3rd Package will cover Pykara and surroundings.. how much for this...

Naresh,

I dont know any specific cab drivers or companies. Would normally negotiate and hire someone in adhoc manner.

That's the best thing to do as you have the freedom to chose your own driver / rate and the car.

We are reaching Coimbatore by 28th in the afternoon time....We are reaching ooty by 29th in Toy Train...Shall we reach Mettupalium by 28th or can we start on 29th by early morning?? which one is better??

How about the accomdation in mettupalium?? Can we easily get the accomdation?? what are the sight seeing places in coimbatore & Mettupalium??

Mettupalayam is a semi developed town but surely will get accomodation without hasles. Dont expect any posh restaurants and big hotels

The best thing to do is to stay in mettupalayam on 28th night and reach the station by 6.50 am on 29th. Are your tickets in the toy train booked or you are taking a general ticket. If you are taking a general ticket, then you better reach before Chennai - Nilagiri express reaches mettupalayam so that you can get better seats.

Places of Interest Near Coimbatore:
Marudamalai Murugan Temple
Kovai Kutralam Falls
Perur Temple
Isha Yoga Mayyam
Vellingiri Temple

I am 100% doubtful if you can see atleast two of the above places in one afternoon session. Probably you can try Perur and Marudhamalai temple and reach mettupalayam.

Places of Interest Near Mettupalayam:
Black Thunder Theme Park

You can skip all the above mentioned places and reach Black Thunder. Spend the whole afternoon as it is a water theme parrk you have a lot of joy rides. Then reach mettupalayam and stay there till the next day morning.

You certainly dont need a A/C car. Ask him to give you a non A/c tariff.

You will never enjoy the climate as well as the scenery in a A/c car.

Get a new quote and then lets decide.

Dude, I asked him for Non-A/c Car here is the reply from him

And Reg AC Car normally AC can be used only in plains and not in Hills so they will not be a big difference becos the major travel is going to be in hills. if its Non Ac it wil be Rs.6750/-

I didn't find any difference in the fare...
