Jeep down from Ooty?

Hi Guys,

Anyone know whether or not you can get shared jeeps down from Ooty to Mettupalayam, and if so are they as easy to get as the ones down from Darjeeling?

We are planning to get a bus from Mysore to Ooty from the North, but my experience with the Toy Train in DJ (13 hours instead of 7, broke down, and derailed in one trip) was pretty rubbish, so the novelty has somewhat worn off and we'd rather get a jeep if poss!

Your help, as always, would be appreciated.

Kind regards,

PM

No Problem Paul !.. Just go to Ooty bus stand and there are buses once in 30 to 45 Minutes to Mettupalaiyam in Day time and you could select your seat and make a Comfortable Journey !!..

Toy Train, Hmmm Badluck for you it seems Paul , as I did 3 to 4 times in this toy train and every time it's a pleasant one ..

Have a Fantastic trip Ahead !!

What a shame about the Toy Train - I did it from Ooty to Coonor once, and just loved it. But I can see how it would be slow for the full journey.

By car it is only a couple of hours, which also means it won't be that expensive to take a car for yourself.

I'm afraid I don't remember how expensive, so I won't try to suggest. Mountain driving in second gear has got to cost rather more than driving on the flat in my home town!

@Saraswati,

Nilgiri Mountain Railway [ NMR ] is referred to as "Toy Train" and you could do a search in google to get the complete background info on the same.. And If this is not the question you have asked, Sorry and Could you please elaborate on what information you are looking for related to this Toy train ?

If you're looking for the easiest route, we ended up just jumping on a bus at the main bus station down to Mettapalayum for about 30 R's each if I recall. We were going to get the train in the end, as the scenery is supposed to be particularly beautiful, but it is small and gets booked up quickly.

From Mettapalayum you can pick up main railway connection towards Chennai.
