You will not miss those spots by train (the train goes through both), but if you want to see more of Lovedale and Wellington other than out of a train window then take a cab! However, the train goes through Wellington town and not the barracks area. Unless you are a fan of colonial military architecture there is not really all that much to see at the Military Staff college and MRC barracks (or army camps as you call it). Having said that, there is not much to see of the school at Lovedale either!

Cab is more flexible and is much quicker anyhow!

Hi Bhushan,

I have infact replied to your other post just now. You may also take a can up to Mettupalayam and then take the toy train. it is really a scenic route. However it depends on what time you land in CBE in order to catch the train uphill.

You can board on either train or cab to travel from Coonoor to Ooty. A train journey to Ooty from Coonoor will also enable you to behold the beauty of both Wellington and Lovedale. So, not to worry at all.

I do not know why this train gets less encouragement compared to Kalka-Shimla and Darjeeling toy trains, though all are world heritage railways. Apart from landslides, there are problems with the rolling stock also, which are getting more and more problems and fast getting outdated.

Read the above link, this is the worst damage ever to the NMR tracks, they hope to have it going only by summer 2010.

Bad news...I travelled by this train in my teenage days and cherish them till now, along with my other two heritage rides, and plan to travel to Ooty some day only to make a photo story and take a joyride on this Nilgiri beauty. Travel to the Nilgiris are incomplete without it.

Bad news is that the derailed ooty toy train is going to take its own time to be back in action.

The estimate to put the train back in action is 11 crore rupees.
