Walk. Err.... ok, seriously ...Train to Metupalayam and car from there. It is possible to take the 'toy train', but it takes much longer than by car. Hmmm... Closest airport, anybody? Mysore doesn't have one, I don't think. I don't suppose you'd gain anything by flying to Bangalore...

The closest airport to Ooty is Coimbatore-CJB and car from there [under 4hrs], that would be the quickest, but definitely not the cheapest way.

Thanks for the correction. So one could do it in around six hours? That's a lot quicker than an overnight train

Not if you are like us, wanting to stop and explore every scenic spot en route - then it could take up to two whole days just to get from starting point to destination!! Seriously though, yes, if your car awaits you at the airport and your driver knows the side roads to avoid the main Mettupalayam road traffic, you could be there in under 4hrs from CJB airport at Pilamedu. Via Coonoor that is. Via Kothagiri is slightly longer distance wise, but ever so much more scenic and with considerably less traffic.

Hi all, I did Coimbatore to Ooty 3 weeks ago in under two hours by Car. The road is very good and quite fast till you hit the bendy bits about half way there.

Under 2 hours is really good. That means the roads are really good and no landslides this season. Excellent news and hope the roads remain that way in Jan - our usual time to visit.
