Option2- Take a bus from Coonor to Metupalyam (will there be buses which can get us to metupalyam in Time in early morning), and after Ooty get Back to Coonor by Bus
Option 3: Get a CAB from coonor to Metuplayam, and after OOty trip get back to Coonor by CAR

Could your company guest house arrange for a driver? Your second options looks a bit risky as in everything needs to be in time.

Hi Raghu.
I am a bit confused. What is your route, and how many days, and in what order?
Driving from Bangalore to...???
Staying in Coonoor for 4 days at END of trip?
I agree with Zamba, esepcially as i hate to wake up extremely early, and unless you spend the night in Mettupalyam, it is going to be a VERY early morning drive to get on the train
Mettupalyam has a nice amusement park for you and your 3 yr old called Black Thunder. Pretty scenery, and a water play area. So IF it fits in your schedule, i would go to Mettupalyam the afternoon before you get on the train, enjoy the park, and spend the night (There is accommodation at the Park, but i dont know if it is good, or its price).
Here is another thought. It is going to be a lONG time for the three yr old to sit on the train, as beautiful and fun a journey as it is, still a long time for a toddler. Have you considered takingthe train just one "leg" for example, Coonoor to Ooty, (which is what we did) or vice versa, and saving yourself the trip down to Mettupalyam? Yo may not see as much, but the scenery is still gorgeous, and the ride through the tunnels nad past the villages was great fun
