Wayfarer, we don't know the temp during Dec, but I think there will be snow. Staying in tent at deoriatal and at Tunganath is well thought. I don't know about Dugalvita and we had a booked car for our entire trip. I think hire and fire of car is not good idea for your trip.
Sialsore is a good place to spend a day.

Well, why not you planning to start the upper Garhwal first.......you all'll be fresh and fit to do it........... beside respected "Bhabi'ji" cant control to do some marketing in Haridwar.......... and you have to carry those extra luges rest of your entire tour.


Another suggestion, move to Rishikesh just after reaching Haridwar by Auto, Bust, Taxi, etc. and grab a hotel/dharamsala near bus stand. It'll help you like that:

1. Transport options are more to upper Garhwal than Haridwar.

2. By starting from Rishikesh you'll be advance around 2hrs for the next long journey towards Syalsaur.

3. You can gather advance info or booking before journey. Even you can get the early morning "news paper jeep" from there.

4. If you got time you may explore Rishikesh; so you dont have to re-visit this place from Haridwar at the last leg of your journey.


Here is the Rishikesh Taxi Association card in case you want to hire..........they'll cost you little bit extra, but safe and reliable.





After getting Rudraprayag within 3/4 pm, you can find easily bus/share jeep/taxi to Syalsaur. In this context you may also opt for Chandrapuri too.....its a nice place too.

From Rishikesh, if you'll manage to get a direct bus to Gaurikund/Phata/Guptkashi/Ukhimath, it'll drop you Chandrasila or Syalsaur.

If its not dark, small car charges you from Rudraprayag to Syalsaur around Rs. 800.

You already have the best idea..........ask your service provider to pick you up from there.........please see the first page of this thread to get the no.s of two reliable hosts at Sari Gaon.........and if you wanna save some money in this leg, go your self to Ukhimath and ask them to pic you up or you can hire a car/jeep costing Rs. 400 to Sari.


Best to plan staying at Chopta........it'll help your next phase to Auli...........ask your host at Sari/Deoria to arrange a car.........they'll do it costing Rs. 800.


In this portion transport options are low. Always best to keep the car with your night stay/s for the safe side. Or you can ask your hotel guy for a car to Gopeshwar/Chamoli. It'll cost arround Rs. 2,000-2,500. If the road is open (Ukhimath to Chopta) there'll be a bus at Chopta at 08:30-09:00 am heading to Gopeshwar........Gopeshwar is welcrowded place.......just at bus stop you'll get constant flow of share jeep to Chamoli........and from Chamoli lots and lots of options to Joshimath.........and next to Auli also easy.


Make sure you got booking at Auli........caz there are only two hotels. Otherwise you can stay at joshimath.


There'll be no bus to Rishikesh/Haridwar. You've to pic direct bus very early in morning to Haridwar from Joshimath.......its better to book in advance. Find share jeep to Rishikesh is like jackpot....... local merchants grab their seat even on the phone.

Mine was October 2nd week..........you were lucky to get clear sky and 100% still water

I disagree with you...........last 15 years I'm traveling on this method and never face any problem out of that........... but think I saved already not less than 7,00,000 bucks

Dear Pkanti making a 3*** at deoriya taal is not a good news at least for people like me because it will further spoil himalaya. its serenity.so its not a good news.

second as per my opinion one must stay at tunganath in night and hike chandrashila as early as 4AM to see panoramic view of himalaya.

No 3 star hotel is making on Deoria Tal. Lakhapat making it at Sari Gaon.


i told it in thought of the chilled weather at that time in Tungnath (hotels there are with very nominal accommodations)be very tough for a kid.

To get the sunrise from Chopta to Chandrasila is not a big deal. Pony option also available from Chopta.

i had been there with my 6 years young doughter and we stayed there at chandrashila hotel. we had not felt any dufficulty about accomodation and such places you cant expact luxury.
second one can not reach chandrashila as early as 4AM from chopta even if one hire pony or horse.
third if you dont see chain reaction then there is no use to hike chandrashila.

Pkanti dont take it otherwise.

As far as 3*** hotel is concern it will ruin serenity of himalaya whether it may construct at saari gaon.
now government is planning to make a helipad in bedani bugyal. do you think it is a right step.

Chopta is the gateway to Tungnath-Chandrasila. Thats not all; Chopta, the "mini Switzerland" of India..............must to know by a tourist why it got the title.
