This is a good idea Nadreg...

Just a small note : It's "Uttarakhand", and not "Uttaranchal"...
As you are already making the effort, it might be a good thing to make the correction here and elsewhere too...

How about having an independent sub-forum for "Uttarakhand" under the States sub-forums... In any case, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, with which it has been combined, attract entirely different sets of tourists / IMers...!

Cheers...!

Where else is it required? I can edit "Trekking Forum" only. We'll have to ask some other mod to do the other change.

You'll have to ask nadreg

Soo...
How do we ask Nadreg...?
Yes, it will be a time-consuming exercise to separate the threads of the two states into different sub-forums...
How about you forwarding this request to Nadreg as you already are on the Editors' Board...!!!
Thanks in anticipation...
Cheers...!

Question Partners for Trekking - Uttarkhand

Hi Avid Trekker and Solo Trekker!

I'm new to this site - and I found a few of your messages. I am coming to India for about 6 weeks from 2nd week of August to end Sept. my passion is INDIA - it calls me and, though I've never lived there - it calls me!! I try to visit as often as possible. The last time I was there was April 2007 (Rishikesh) - for a month. The roads to the Char Dham had not opened yet so we didn't visit.

This time I really want to go - and I want to spend extra time in and around Badrinath - trekking, and just chilling out.

Any ideas / suggestions? I saw the post which says 'trekkig partners' - how does that work?

Thank you for your help in advance.

Yes, it would be a lot of work. But, if the group thinks it's a good idea, I'd be willing to do it.

Honestly, I have felt that need for two independent separate forums - for Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand - for over a year now...

My body is in Uttar Pradesh... But my heart n soul is in Uttarakhand almost all the time...!

It's not just me - I feel that it would be a useful exercise for anyone n everyone browzing through the site for information...

WorldDancer...
Welcome to Indiamike...!

You'll get all the information you want on various forums here...
About how this service about 'trekking partners' work, well - you post your suggested itinerary - dates and trekking destination - and if there's someone with similar ideas, (s)he'll surely reply and then it can be worked out...

The idea is that there are a lot of solo travellers (especially people like me...!) who travel alone, but meet-up with others along the way... And have an equally good (if not better) time...!

Hope it works for you...!

Meanwhile, here's a suggestion for you... Look this up :

Valley of Flowers & Hemkund Sahib

Cheers...!

Just post your specific or non-specific trekking area with approximate dates on this thread and see who responds ... And/Or If you would like to go to Himachal as well, post on the Himachal trek meetup thread...

All the best and Happy Trekking

Char Dham plus trek from 20th August - 17th Sept.

Thanks Avid Trekker.

After much consideration I've set my dates for my stay in the Kumaon region (hopefully Babaji will materialize at some point!!! ) .

Is there anyone who wants to visit the Char Dham and also do trekking? I'm a beginner to moderate trekker; can anyone share thoughts as to where the best treks are - bearing in mind I want to make it to the Char Dhams as well? Def. want to do the Henkund Sahib portion. Maybe I can do another 7 to eight day trek either at the beginning, in the middle or at the end? I'd like to start and end in Rishikesh if possible.:. Last week in Mumbai (17th - 25th Sept.). Can I do Yoga classes in Mumbai in that time?

Hemkund Sahib is a simple trek with many people on the trail. After day 1, people can choose eiher VOF or Hemkund Sahib. Or one can do both.

day 1. Govindghat to Ghangaria
day 2. Ghangaria to VOF and return
day 3. Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib and return
day 4. Ghangaria to Govindghat

Kumaon treks which you can do without guide and porters are Milam, Sudardunga, Pindari and Kafni Glaciers. You can do either Pindari or Milam in seven days.

It's a natural phenomenon that takes place at Panwalikantha (Almost 4000 m) every year - there are fireworks in the sky...! A meteor shower that reaches it's peak every year on the night of 12th August...!

Anyone interested...?

Cheers...!
