Partners For Goecha La trek in October 2008

Dear IM Members,

I want to trek to Goecha La this October and finding trekking partners. Anyone interested, plz. share your thoughts. I will prefer first week of October to get the benifit Puja Vacations. Probable date of starting may be 3rd October night. Standard itinerary is :

3rd Oct: Board Train(Sealdah)/Bus(Esplanade) for NJP/SNT

4th Oct: Reach NJP Station/SNT Bus Stand
Reach Yaksom by share jeep.
Stay, arrange guide, porter, utensils, ration.

5th Oct: Yaksom - Tsoka

6th Oct: Tsoka - Dzongri

7th Oct: Dzongri - Thansing

8th Oct: Thansing - Zemathang

9th Oct: Zemathang - Goecha La - Samiti

10th Oct: Samiti - Kokchurang

11th Oct: Kokchurang - Tsoka

12th Oct: Tsoka - Yaksom

13th Oct: Reserve day

14th Oct: Yaksom - Shiliguri - Board Train/Bus at night

15th Oct: Reach Kolkata at morning

Expense per head should be within 5000/-

hi i m very much interested but...the prob is date.during those pujo days we already planned for dooars .
and another thing ....is it possible with 5000/head
i dont think so...

5000 per head is not possible from kol to kol.

& pls. change your going route on the time of up. it will be yuksom to bakhim to fedang to zongri. others are allright.

Hi Arindam,

I was trying to include the puja holidays to reduce leave days. Anyway dates are really flexible. I'm looking for partners and dates will be fixed when team will be fixed. So don't worry about the dates, that can be shifted.

Cost Rs. 5000/- is from Shiliguri to Shiliguri and you need train/bus fares (500 approx) and security money (500) and gear hire cost(300/400 approx) extra and that should be within Rs. 1500/-.

Yaksom to Tsoka and Tsoka to Dzongri is very much doable and that is standard schedule. But we have to think about all team members. If there is a need we obviously break that into 3 days.

u r absolutely right. If there is any new trekker in group then u can break that. Yuksom to Tsokha is very boring route. Its all inside the jungle & river.

Hi,
I came to know abt this forum after trying to find out more info abt how to get to Goecha la. I am planning the trip for mid oct, and after going through several blogs,forums etc. i have come to the conclusion (and plz correct me if I am wrong) that I may not book through any touring agent and can straight away land in yuksom, and arrange from there.
This i believe would save some money, but is it too risky? I mean is there any chance that I will be stranded there without any porters or guides to take me? Reply will be very much appreciated as I am really looking forward to go on this trip.

hi pradyotb no need to book through any touring agent.That wll be costly ,u r right.In Yoksom u wll find all arrangement ,porter guide all.but u wll have to find their ....which ill take some time or 1 day hold.If u have time then it ll be good 4 u.

No need of any agency for Goecha La. Yaksom is the place where you can arrange Guide, Porter, Utensil, Ration, Yak/Mule, Entry Pass etc.

If you guys are interested, we can do it as a team. Plz. post your views.

Thanks for your response guys. Now I am getting more confident. My dates aren't confirmed yet, and that is what my leave dynamics are dependent on. It is definitely going to be October though. Once I get to know the exact dates when you are planning, I will let you know asap if I can make it with you guys as a team.

it was nice to talk with u.What we concluded yesterday is that, No of heads is only the problem 4 this October trek.
I think if we can make it 4+ then we can go for it.From My side 2 of my friends r ready initially.So now initially we r 4.
