Don't we need a Sticky Thread for Trek Invitations
Hi to the trekking fraternity,
Don't we need a Sticky Thread for Trek Invitation open for people to join?
I know many of you might already have a close knit group of people who regularly take the adventure. But there are many like us who are parted from their group, busy to make both of their ends meet, and when we find time for adventure, our friends are still busy.
If you too feel that we need a focused thread where such people can come together, spare the hassle of searching the entire forum, please mail to the moderators/webmaster of the site to make the need heard. I had requested this to the moderator and didn't even received a reply - positive or negative.
There are other few very useful Sticky we can have :
1. Trusted Adventure Agencies/Equipment hire
2. Best routes
3. Trek Invitations
Thanks,
Ujjwal

Good idea, but a tour company may try many tricks to get info into that thread, a nightmare for moderators.

The mods discuss these things at length, you may wait a while for a reply. .
SOS: Missing Person...
Please look at this thread, even if you are not in India.: Have you seen Jonathan Spollen?
He could be anywhere now: You might have met him, be able to help, or give information.

Sticky thread Needed
I second the need.
For a sticky thread with title "Trekking partners required/invited"..... or something like that.
I joined IndiaMike in 2003 to search for a trekking partner. Never found any. Sometime after eight months of my entry, I requested Mike himself (admin.. now retired) to grant a new Forum title called "Trekking and Mountaineering". He ignored this request at first. I persisted. He eventually agreed with one condition that I physically gather all the (then) scattered threads and bring them together under this new heading. It was done.
That was how the trekking Forum came about as a separate Forum header.
Today, IndiaMike has an enviable trekking Forum. AndreasW will vouch for this. (he heads his own German language trekking forum) Most of the information on IM is original and up-to-date.
Nobody would have imagined that the trekking Forum will grow to this size in quantity AND quality, both in terms of trekkers and write-ups.
For example, the very first internet write-up on the rarely crossed Buran Ghati has been blogged by our IMer Uttam.
****************************** **************
While we DO have a "traveling partners" Forum title, it is more general in its scope as it includes all forms of travellers to India and not just trekkers.
The time has come for all trekkers to have a separate sticky for "trekking partners required/invited" under the Trekking & Mountaineering Forum.
Other trekkers please add your ayes to this little demand, and we can then ask the boss to do us the honours.

The Universe is an ellipsoid?... or a Spheroid?? If the sphere smiles... it becomes an ellipse. This IS Creation.
It will be a nightmare to moderate. I think most people understand our zero-tolerance stand on travel agents, drivers and professionals. It will be very hard to determine if people putting together a group have a commercial interest, even if it is a small-time one.
Hopefuly, it would be less prone to that other bane of our lives in the travel partners' thread: the pick-up artist, as in wanted; three or four women to keep handsome guy warm on a mountainside.
On the whole though, to me, it seems like a good idea.
As AT says: over to the boss

Look at it this way... all the "drivers" will attack "this" ONE thread only. Monitor strictly this one only. That should free up the other threads from moderating nightmares.

Why ONLY three or four??
Look at Vijay Mallya... every year he has dozens around him... and a fresh set every time.

Yes. Lets see what the boss says...

Mod note: Just confirmed that none of the moderators, forum leader or nadreg received this request.Regardless, it has been now mooted. Give us a little time to kick it around.
Thanks for all your replies!! I now realise the down side of spammers and quaks. Being owner/moderator of a medium sized community (4k), I understand the challenge in keeping the place clean.
Captain, I didn't mean to offend the awesome efforts of the Mods by saying I didn'y get the reply. What all I meant that my opinion might got fialed to catch mods attention ( mailed using the "Contact us" feedback feature, and not directly to any mod as I dont know thier mail id.)
Good humour Avid! Mallya may soon have Fasion Shows at mach 0.9!! Right inside the passenger cabin as alternate revenue measure!

Ujjwal

Hi Ujjwalis. Don't worry as your comments caused no offence at all, and in any case we have pretty tough hides.
We did have a good hunt for the message - but came up empty (although there have been a few glitches in the system of late).Just to let you let you know the idea is being discussed and there is no major impediment or reason not to do it. Its more the mechanics of how it is done and how the various inputs would be managed (not just spammers, travel agents, etc - but what would be the best way to group the information).
Anyway - watch this space.

Why do you think I call myself "solo_trekker"...???
Guys...
Why do you think I gave myself the nickname I have...??? "solo_trekker"
This need for a sticky thread for trekkers is definitely there.
Or maybe, you could start a separate thread on "Trekking Partners Wanted"... But, it just wouldn't be the same - that would be leaving it to chance...
Yes, there is a lot of charm and fun in solo trekking...
But I wouldn't have become a solo trekker if I always managed to get people with my idea of a holiday, travelling preferably but not necessarily from the same starting point, and travelling towards the same trekking destination, at the time and season of my choice, and for the same time period, and willing to be part of a twosome/group, and share the expenses, and having similar travel budgets, and most importantly have the inclination to meet up with and be with a new person he/she/they are meeting for the very first time in his/her/their life/lives...!
Too many conditions, right...??? Thatz why it isn't easy...!!! And, I've happily remained what my name suggests...!!!
Yes, I've been kinda lucky, and have quite often been with travel buddies I was meeting for the first time - both men n women, but more often than not, it's been a lucky accident (except once when it was planned). Now that I think of it, on all occasions, it just happened to be with people from Europe...
But, honest to goodness, I think I'll stick with my nickname, even if the mods start the sticky...!
I kinda like the name...!
And yes, solo trekking is something I was, am, and shall remain, absolutely passionate about...!
Cheers...!

Sticky Thread def needed.
i think it is a great idea to have a separate sticky thread just for trek invitations and future trek planning..
It avoids duplication of information and also acts as a central place of current andplanned trekkings..
Fresh trekkers can definitely joined with exp folks and share the experience..
moderator/administrator - over to you guys..We need a Sticky thread for trek invitations..please.
