Both buses are there, HPTDC have low in frequency and maximum of the buses are Volvo type. And timings are also fixed so you have to confirm the timings of the bus with HPTDand HRTC COntact number is 23868694/23325320 ..
For HRTC you can take a bus from ISBT Bus stand from counter number 7 and available till 10.00 or 10.30 pm most of them are general buses.
I think via Train it will take more time comparatively bus and via bus you can enjoy the various Dhaba and the natural beauty of Himanchal Pradesh.
Now choice is yours.

Ther si no direct train for Bunter or Kasol or Manali,
Either you have to travel for Pathankot or Jogindernagar via train and board a bus from there, better if you would board from Delhi or Chandigarh.

Oh my GOD, that was a big 15 post word fight only on the route. Thanks to vko & Sankalp to help. I think Everything is resolved now and clear.

@Vko: that was nice effort by searching the map and links.

And yes, you will get local buses but they take more than 14hrs. The rate is 450/- till bhuntar.
The travel agent will say that it will take 10hrs but dont belive him, it will take min of 12-14hrs. last yr when i went for SAR Pass, it took 16hrs .

Delhi - Bhuntar - Kasol

The best way to reach Bhunter is via bus from Delhi only. If you dont want to do long travel of Bus then book your flight tckets to Bhunter which will cost u a lot.
So take a night bus take a power nap and enjoy the HP in the morning, get down Bhunter again take a bus to Manikaran get down at Kasol or at the Base camp.

From last two time i had follow the same route again follow the same route this time.

Yeah, it's a long bus journey. Takes same time in AC buses and the Ordinary buses. Volvos cost more, but are pretty comfortable. 14 hrs is the norm. When I went it took 16 hrs just to reach Aut, due to a accident enroute causing a 4hr traffic jam. Good thing is that the roads are pretty decent.
So far the plan is a Family trip to Garhwal region (Badrinath-Kedarnath). No trek this summer. A few hikes during the trip, but nothing more. I'll try something in Autumn, or Winter.

I'm planning to take the HPTDC volvo which leaves at 6:30PM as i will be landing in the capital by noon. Any idea about the boarding point for the bus?? I think its at HPTDC office in Janpath, Cannought Place. Could you confirm this?

I took the same bus from ISBT Bus stand.

HPTDC buses ply from Kashmere gate ISBT too??

HPTDC Volvo buses have diiferent different pikup points like Kashmiri Gate, ISBT Bus stand, Cannought place. SO you have to fix it your own which one is comforatble for you. I used to take from ISBT bus Stand only.
Please look after that if you would travelling via HPTDC volvo then book ur ticket in advance because May would be the peak season for Manali. Get down at Bhunter and catch a bus for Manikaran which will drop you at Kasol Base camp.
If you are looking for general buses then you will get seats easily on the spot and they are in a good frequency too. You will get this general buses from ISBT only.

Yes, mine was HPTDC, and i took it form ISBT.
And if you take a local Bus to Bhuntar then be careful the journey will be very tiring as the seat is not that good. I experienced it on my return journey, I am 6ft tall and head & neck didnt get proper back support, hence at the end of journey of 14 hrs my neck was in pain.

Is YHAI currently organising some event for sar pass or similar , if any body has details kindly post.
