hi..
i have read a lot of posts.. blogs regarding this.. i personaly consider YHAI treks are really worth .. only concern being strict rules which may not seem very logical and no luxurious accos available (normally minimum 10 ppl share a tent and if u are wet after trekking night sleep may be difficult).. normally in YHAI treks everyday a batch of 40 to 50 ppl take up the trek.. and if u are ok to compromise (also no toilets for men )on such things, the trek should be an amazing experience. PS :- this is my first trek with YHAI .. and all the above infos are collected from the internet. may be some one can share their real exp.. |

hi swati..
we went to leh last august the climate was absolutely ok.. not too cold. But you should have one thing in mind. normally the manali- leh road is open only during mid of may. so pls check out if it would be open when u r planning ur trip..and for the sarpass trek ofcourse, we will update u with all the tips once we are back.. river rafting !!! iam not sure when it will start in leh.. but for sure you can do it in some place close to manali itself... i would suggest paragliding as well in solank valley near manali.. last time we missed it because of bad weather.. |

Hi friends,
Greetings to all. I have been a Camp Leader with the YHAI on a few occasions but this year intend to do the Sar Pass trek as a participant. I have always enjoyed the YHAI treks which are so well managed and very well organised by volunteers. The concept of YHAI is unique. Every day one group leaves the base camp for the higher camp. Each group may have an approx 40 members consisting of people from all walks of life, students, professionals, housewives. They may be from any part or region of the country, even be a foreigner. For 10 days (duration of the trek) you are part of this group. At the end of 10 days you all know each other like family and sometimes become friends for life. Motto of YHAI is "Wandering one gathers Honey" but I say wandering one gathers new friends. You will all have a wonderful time with the YAHI treks. Best of luck to you all. |

Beas river rafting
Hi Ananth,
I need your suggestions on planning my trip. I have two days reserved for sight-seeing, other than the trek. How good is the river rafting at Manali? Also, on the way back, I want to take a train to Pathankot from Jogindernagar. Any idea, how long it takes to reach Jogindernagar from Manali? Other than Rohtang Pass, can you suggest some other good places around Manali? -Sharath |

Mod Note
Hi folks. Just a gentle reminder to please refrain from using txt speak in the posts. There are many different nationalities using this site for which english is difficult enough without using txt. thanks. |

Hi Ananth, I'll be doing this trek after 20th of May. As for the points raised by Sameer, the food will be completely vegetarian. The menu at each of the camps will be different and you will like it. Accommodation would be in tents where 10 to 12 participants, depending on the size of the group are accommodated. Charging of batteries would be a problem as there would be no electricity in the higher camps except may be in the first camp other than the base camp at Kasol. Keep your gadgets especially mobiles switched off when not in use would be my advice. Last but not the least, be prepared for the Camp Fires which are held in most of the camps (without burning of wood offcourse but by lightning candles). Learn some good songs. You will all have a wonderful time I'm sure.
