| Winter Treks- Off beats easy and mid range trek options I saw many threads for Winter Treks in usually summer trek areas. For beginners, winter treks are advisable in areas of some sparse population. The weather can take nasty turn any time and severe conditions are probables even in April in such treks. I suggest one area for winter treks where even in winter some population one can meet: near Daran Ghati near Rampur and Sarahan in HP. The place see heavy snow fall and there are two routes to Daran. The area is close to Hindustan Tibet Road. Other Area is Bir to valley of Bhangal near Baijnath in Himachal. Other option is Pulga/ manikaran near Kullu. Bit easier and to have fun in snow with good infrastructure ther are choices like: Jhanjheli, Karsog, Chindi in Winter are other excellent winter trekking options (depending on snow one can try Shikari Devi) These spots are in short drive (1-3 hrs) from SunderNagar, mandi, Tattapani (Shimla). And are populated places. Even full back up of Tourist Bungalow also available with power supply! Not too far is also MahuNag. A place with end of road and must see place in rains too for clouds. In Kumaon places for winter treks are: Syahi Devi/ Sheetla Khet. There are two accesses to this place and Himalaya View is at it's best. Near Ranikhet in deep forest with excellent himalaya view, a place called Soni towards Binsar Devta Temple and further 7-8 kms down. On this trek in snow you can enjoy. Near established places with one night camping options are: matiana near Shimla, (from Matiana one can rise to small bugyal uphill and camp there. This offers good view of Himalaya) For easy snow walking, Narkanda to baghi is also option. This is Near Shimla. But this place is very cold in winter. |
