Where to trek in mid October?
I apologize for my ignorance on trekking in India. I will be flying into India (Delhi) on the 8th of October and hope to get trekking as soon as possible as I understand that the trekking season is nearly over. I'm not picky, basically I just want to get into the Himalayas, see some great views. I'm 28, in good shape and looking to work hard on the hike. If possible I'd love to climb above 5000m.
I do have some obstacles though. Namely, I don't have any of my own equipment and I'll be traveling alone. I tried to find some trekking companies online but they seemed exorbitantly expensive. I was quoted at roughly US$750 for 9 days going to roopkund. Should I just head to Leh first or somewhere else? Any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated. |

You can try Goecha La in sikkim. October/November is the best time to trek there. And its 5000m too
Happy trekking |

I think PINDARI REGION is fine, KINNER KAILASH CIRCUIT [ Strenuous ]is also possible besides BEAS KUND, HAMTA PASS,
ROOP KUND: I am of the view that this is high and remote- in case of one heavy snowfall...you may get trapped and topogrpahy of the area is certainly not good in such conditions-specially descending down from KALUA BINAYAK. |

You want to trek the Himalayas...5K plus... no equipment and alone....I doubt if you wd get a better deal than 60-70 $ a day ..that too if any one would be willing to do that for just one person. I am sure...for respectable treks in Nepal also the price would not be very different. We do treks like tht for 40-50$ a day...but then it would be a group of 5/6 people. Yes..of course you could do tea huse treks like Pindari, Gaumukh and Milam glacier for a fraction of that price...but none of them would be 5K plus. |

this 50$ quote is from the guy who has been supporting all my treks for last decade. There is this guy in Uttarkashi who runs an agency and has been supporting my treks for quite some time now. Since he is based out of the deep interiors I look at his pricing, the pricing by GMVN and some other quotes that I keep on seeing in these threads and hence the conclusion. Usually if you take a quote from agencies based out of Delhi or Rishikesh it would be fatter by 20% to 40% because of middlemen commissions. Also if you do a base price calculation it comes close to this keeping a 20% margin for the guy who runs the agency. The value that he gives in exchange is a known and dependeable team, good equipment and mind-blowing food. |
