where to trek in Garhwal in first week of June
Hi!,
Would you suggest anything for the first week of June which can be done in 10 days ex- Delhi. Any suggestions on Kagbhusandi Tal or Santopanth lake?? I am also contemplating on Ghuttu-Reeh-Gangi- Kharsoli-Kalayani-Bhelbagi-Khatling-Masar Tal- Vasuki Tal- Kedarnath route during that time?? Any advice on feasibility of doing this route?? Thanks, JP |

u havn't mentioned few very imp issues....no of members, their age, fitness and experience. in any respect Ghuttu-Reeh-Gangi- Kharsoli-Kalayani-Bhelbagi-Khatling-MAsar Tal- Vasuki Tal- Kedarnath trek is very good.......dont forget to visit gandhi sarovar at early morning from kedar...may be on the day u r leaving kedar its possible to do it and then go down to gourikund by 4pm (takes 4hrs descending for fit people) u can also try valley of flowers trek.....even amidst rain u can see some flowers (wont be seen in other seasons....u can go thru' one good guiding post by avidtrekker in this very forum). another good trek......less known one....may fascinate everybody....and hey Rahul for u (its in that way to badri from kedar).... u can go to BUDA MADMAHESHWAR starting from ukhimath....this is a historic trail and u can find some intersting fact in Trekking frm Badrinath to Kedarnath madmaheshwar is a known temple...one of panch kedar and buda madmaheshwar is a bit higher....the tal is also near the upper temple. going to satopanth tal was a good option but i have heard that recently due to receding of glacier and some consequent land slides the path after Vasudhara falls is in very dangerous condition.....think before going there. plan well...Njoy....send pics...share experience. babu Last edited by babuchand : Mar 22nd, 2005 at 18:47. |

June First Week-Trekking Routes
jyoti
Some more options for June here.. 1. Trek to Pindari Glacier: When you will start your trek-a village name KHATI will come. You can bifurcate and visit SUNDERDUNGA BASE CAMP and come back to Khati. Depending upon your stamina to walk. This is little bit scencing from KHATI but much is gradual. If not only visiting PINDARI GLACIER and camping near BABA's hut could be refreshing thing. You can also divert from your last KMVN guest house DWALI for KAFNI GLACIER. Otherwise-you can easily enjoy PINDARI GLACIER and BINSAR SANCTUARY in 10 Days from Ex-delhi. Ranikhet Express reaches early in morning arround 7 AM at Kathgodam. And same day you can reach SONG-which is mountain roadhead. |

Ghuttu to Khatling to Kedarnath would be better in July - Aug even in a normal snowfall year. This year the snowfall has been very heavy. Feasible.... if all of you are very experienced and very good trekkers (not beginners) especially the 10-day-ex DLI part. If I tried, I probably could do it, but I wouldn't. Wouldn't attempt it in 10 days ex DLI because i want my trekking to be pleasurable... not a F1 Trekking Circuit. It is basically difficult to envisage proper treks in the Himalayas if one has only 10 days ex-Delhi. This is a chronic problem as I have had to say 'no' to very good trekking partners many times faced with this 10/12/13 day demand. Even given full two weeks Delhi to Delhi, at least ONE person has to go two days in advance to arrange porters etc. This is not Nepal where everything is laid out for you and you have to order from a menu. You have to pitch your own tents, cook your own food & so on, sometimes in pouring rain or very high wind. Pindari, Kafni, Sunderdunga as mentioned above are do-able. The Har-ki-doon trek conducted by YHAI is do-able in 12/13 days DLI to DLI. Its a good trek with a deviation route and pretty good food and acco. for the price (rs 2400 last year). Their Sar Pass trek is do-able in ten days ex DLI.
