If I may suggest some change: (a) Leave for Tapovan as early as possible. I may take 04 hours to reach without much prob. The end climb is the real climb. After rest and food visit Neeltal and the glacier coming down just ahead of it. Should not take more than 1 hour. (b) drop day four and return to Bhoojbasa next day after you have gone around Tapovan. (c) Use day 5 as rest day at Gangotri. (d)Day 8 spend more time at Kedartal and spend the night again at Kedar kharak. (e) By afternoon you should be at Gangotri if you leave early morning. Well When I visited Kedarkharak it was green and next day when I left it was totally white. So you need to be ready for everything. But don't worry fresh snow is OK. Detailed pics of both treks are at the site. |

Is any guide really needed for going Tapovan?? Another mad thing I will ask for, is it possible to reach Gangotri in one day from Kedartal
?? If it is possible then we will spend the night at Kedartal. Actually I have short of time . Everyone is telling that the trek from Akhri Bhujkharak to Kedarkharak is very risky, why?? |

There are people going to Tapovan and if you have some experience of mountains you can easily do it. If moving onto a glacier for the first time take a porter who will lift your stuff and show you the way. I was told people are doing it in one day from Gangotri to Kedartal and back. I met only one person and it is difficult to tell wheather he had visited Kedartal proper or not. However, it is possible to do Kedartal to Gangotri in one day without problem. Only your knees need to be strong as you shall be moving down most of the time. What people have told you is correct. After Bhojkharak you have to move on exposed slope where the trek is for name sake and there is danger of falling stones. One has to be very careful while crossing this section. Also this section will change from time to time. Taking a guide cum porter is recommended. Do plan to spend time at Kedartal. |
