Valley of Flowers: Local walking/hiking groups?
Hi, I wonder if ayone can share information on walking/hiking groups (not travel agencies) as I would love to join a local group to do the Valley of Flowers this year. I recall reading a recommendation last year but I lost the link and I've searched the forum without success.
Many thanks for your help!! ![]() Last edited by machadinha : Feb 17th, 2008 at 01:46. Reason: adjusted title |

Heheh, just wait till end-May and watch the threads kick off!
For now, it's easy to search - use these terms "Valley of Flowers" (quotes included), and VOF. U'll see a lot of threads pop up. Since u are probably within the deadline of 24 hours to edit your post, I'll also suggest that u add "for Valley of Flowers" to the thread title. Makes it easier for folks with a similar interest to find your thread. ![]() |

Hi,
The GMVN Bunglow is open during the time you have planed your trip. You will still get snow and its not the right time if you are going for flowers. The roads would be OK since you plan to go before the rains. If leave and time are not the constraints and you are visiting for flowers plan for Aug mid. Also plan to go by local shared vehicle so that in case of road block due to landslides you can change vehicles, otherwise you have to wait for the land slides to be cleared which are done promptly but can take time.

2. Yes. 3. Rain, maybe - the monson usually kicks off sporadically in mid-June. Snow, highly unlikely. No need to worry about land-slides - altho they can never be ruled out, they are rare until the monsoon is in full swing, Jul/Aug. Last edited by Dilliwala : Feb 24th, 2008 at 00:54. |

There'll be flowers, but few. Full bloom is in July/Aug.

rain... lots of it in june...
flowers... hardly any in june... yes, the variety of flowers changes from july to september, but u won't find more than some teeny weeny buds in june... rest assured... seriously, there's loads and loads of snow in hemkunt sahib in june - the place opens in the first week of june... and some snow is surely there even in the valley of flowers... best to delay it to june-end, if it has to, repeat, has to, be june...! or else, check-out the sun flowers in july...! p.s. - get your kids to walk, and not to take the ponies... walking at a snail's pace is still better than taking the pony because sitting on a pony's back side for hours together is not gonna do any good to their back sides...!!! trust me...!!! cheers...!!! |
