Multiple postings are frowned upon here....the mods will speak!
Suggest you search the trekking and mountaineering forum for lamkhaga pass and kalindi khal. numerous people have made it and you'd find lots of info. |

As wisely counselled by ronsaik, no multiple postings please.

Pass crossings
Quote:
Gangotri to Badrinath crossing, the pass known as Kalindi Khal; is crossed by three to five teams each year. Details and pics are there on IndiaMike (search for "Kalindi Khal") Both involve long glaciers and crevasse crossings. Ropes, ice axes, crampons required. Mountaineering skills required (at least one lead climber with ice climbing experience). The technical patches are short, but they are very much there. Both require inner line permits to be obtained in advance from the concerned district magistrate. Obtain your Leomann maps from Europe or USA. Not India. Its good of you to choose such difficult treks. It will require more time, more money, good fitness, bureaucracy (Inner Line Permits) and a good porter-guide team, especially for Lamkhaga as only two known guides exist for Lamkhaga. Happy trekking . .

This is manu , i am from simla .work in accenture Delhi. You can get leomann maps 6, 7, and 8 for indian himalaya from Adventure 18 from Satyaniketan in Delhi. trek from gangotri to badrinath via arwa tal trek in october is difficult due to weather condition. In my opinion , trek from chitkul to harsil via lamkhaga pass , u need to go via mori near harkidoon. Note:- I am planning a trek to OM PARVAT , it is situated in uttranchal , this is a total trek of 18 to 22 days , if you like to join me you are welcome. i will start from delhi on 20th august, if you have your friends you can ask them too. This is my dream to see om parvat so if you could join , it would be great. |

Thanks for your reply. If you are planning in month of october , weather becomes a bit cold but i feel you can manage till last week of october if weather permits as there are people who do ladakh n spiti treks in october. There are lotta travel agencies in india who does that but it is quite economical if you start on your own with group of people. I am not an expert may be some senior people in blog might guide you the best if it comes to travel agencies. The trek i am planning to (OM PARVAT), Its a almost 20 days trek , i am working on my fitness level these days, i am planning to leave by 20th august but if you want i can start by 15th september max as i am looking for teammates and i am not able to create a new thread , it tell me i dont have permission so i have written to administrator of the site. Well!! lets hope things go well!! |

Just a bit of correction there.. The Lamkhaga trail is done either from Harsil or from Chitkul. Mori and Har-Ki-Dun will land you up in either Rupin Valley or Har Ki Dun Valley. You have to do Rupin Pass or Borasu Pass respectively to get to Baspa Valley where Chitkul is situated. Lamkahaga and Chhotkhaga connects Baspa Valley(Chitkul) to Bhagirathi Valley(Harsil). Am still in 2 minds to decide whether to do it in September. However the itinerary and quote for it is available with me as of now. The plan is to start from harsil..do Lamkhaga..go to Chitkul and onwards to Sangla...do Rupin Pass and come out at Netwar ..Let's see how it turns out. Have done a bit of research on Google Maps Here is what it looks like http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?t=h&h...de6a690cf&z=10 Quote:

hi manku, thanx for your reply! i dont mind, if it is cold, i live in a cold country! i have to work until 29th september, and that would be too late for you. i would also love to do pin parvati but not sure, wheather to go down to gungri or via borasu pass to har-ki-doon. i have about 6 weeks to spend and, try to get the best out of it.
take care and good luck! hello ashutosh! please do so!! carmen_hocke(at)a1(dot)net thanx! hi avidtrekker! thank you for your advice! Last edited by brownboy66 : Jul 12th, 2008 at 02:13. Reason: merged sequential posts |
