I thought it would be useful to list some phone numbers for people intending to trek this year (pls note these numbers are working as of NOW - they can change without rhyme or reason)

Delhi: Indian Mountaineering Foundation. Useful for hiring/buying equipment (good quality) - burearucratic, but the staff is helpful. Mr. Panigrahi is the stores incharge.

If you want to hire equipment from NIM - you should call/book well in advance.

GMVN at Rishikesh has friendly helpful people, with reasonable quality equipment. No down bags - just fibre/polyfill. The location of the Trekking and mountaineering division is in MUNI KI RETI - which is on Laxman Jhula road - you can take a tempo (3-wheeler) from the bus stand to this place (15 mins ~INR 10).

There are many other private people - in Uttarkashi itself. But nothing in Gangotri.
