this was on the afternoon news on one of the english news channels, but maybe the reader read 1800 as 18000 - slip of tongue perhaps. But the Pipalkoti route is closed (landslide), Hemkunt Sahib route closed (landslide and road slip) and Badrinath route is closed (landslide and rubble deposited on the road by a cloud burst. There is talk of suspending the yatra. Gangotri route was also closed (landslides) and I hear the Rishikesh Rudraprayag route is also not fully operational.
Pretty bad situation over all.
Police and para military have been called in to rescue people and bring them over. As of last night over a thousand people had been rescued from Badrinath and the operation was on to bring over the other Yatris stuck there.

Badrinath the situation as of this morning was still not very good, the administration is trying to get the pilgrims stuck there out and control prices of food stuff. Advice is to avoid badrinath completely and Hemkunt too.
