Question Update needed: Regulation at Gangotri National Park

Hi All
We'r going at Gangotri at mid of May'08, we heared that Uttarkhand Govt. now regulate the number of traveller to 150 person per day from 1st April 2008. My query is :

From where the permission is available to enter at the Park?

Thanks All,

Hi There
The Gangotri National Park has come up very recently. The gate of this park is situated about 2 kilometers from Gangotri in the path to Gomuk. (see my photograph here). I was there in 2005 and as best as I can remember its at the gate only that permission is given. If you are treking to Tabovan then a fee is required about Rs.50/- (not sure)per day.
Guides and porters also register here they have to pay to their local unions to go to Gomuk and above.
On way out you have reregiter or rather deregister at the gate.

Hi,
I am just came back from Gangotri.Ours programme was to go to Gomukh but Forest department had not gave permission.They have no rules about gomukh when they decide they close & when that want they give permission ita very sad.After that we trek to Dodital
If you want permission then you will try from DM Uttarkishi & Forest department(DFO)Uttarkashi.

Thumbs up

@Alok,

Once again I'm telling that permission can be collected only from DM, DFO office, Uttarkashi. And the officers at the gate 2km away from Gangotri, only registers your name & address and your guides/porters name and will give you a slip as a entry pass. Entry pass and entry permission are different and to be collected from these different places. For better convenience you try to collect any contact number of the Uttarkashi DFO office and call them to settle these permission matter before starting your journey.
