Hey there! We're up in the north of India from the 1st to the 12th of Aug... We did a trek around Leh a few years ago, and read about many treks in Himachal and Ladakh. It is just too hard to make a choice from what we read. And, moreover, the last trek we did was with the two of us. It would be nice to have some other people around. To be honest, I found the scene in Ladakh a bit depressing, since there's virtual no green spots (agreed, it's a desert, but still.. )I am not sure if Uttaranchal (Gangotri, Topovan, Yamunotri) is at all accessible without being flushed away by monsoon rains - the rains are not the biggest problem, as are the possible landslides and the lack of views. Why would one travel in such a beautiful area if you can only see fog and clouds!? If anyone has some advice on this, please share... So the question is: who is going to be (most probably) in Shimla, Manali or Leh (or any other town in the high Himalayas without TOO much rain) around the 1st of August, and has similar plans to do a moderate to hard trek? Also considering the Stok Kangri summit (supposedly 4 days, but we like to take it more easy because of the altitude.. ).Looking forward to any replies. Cheers! 2 guys from the Netherlands. |

Ladakh has no rain
Ladakh lies in the rain shadow region... so no rain there. [last year there was freak rainfall and many people were stranded... but that was an exception]
Whatever you plan for Ladakh is without any rain. The other places are trekkable, just carry a rain proof poncho. . .

In places where it rains... it alternates btwn sun and rain.
Views will be mixed... cloudy and sunny... not very clear views. I still trek in this season nevertheless. Even five mins of clear weather can give breathtaking views. |

Hi,
As you may get rains during Aug go for VOF as it is the best time to visit the place. All green and you shall not be alone on the trail. If you get good weather and time is there visit Kauri pass above Joshimath for good view of Nanda Devi and other peaks. |
