Hey there Indiamikers. Long time lurker posting maiden post here. Went to med school for 2-and-a-half-years in Manipal (west of Bangalore) and fell in love with the Indian subcontinent ever since.

I've been to McLeod Ganj before (and in fact, most of central and northern India) but this time, I plan to explore the Kangra and Chamba valley systems more thoroughly. I'm considering making a solo trek (sans guide) up to Triund, Laka and Lahesh Cave next month (April) and I can really use some advice on the feasibility of my plan. I have trekked before but never pitched a tent, and am relatively fit. And I've heard that this popular route is pretty kind to novices. I also have more than a week to spend in McLeod Ganj to learn the routes and pick up some outdoorsey skills.

Also, is it insane for me to try to reach the Indrahar Pass on my lonesome?

P.S. Are there any groups planning the same trek this April and wouldn't mind having a 24-year old Malaysian Chinese bloke on board? I speaka da Inglis good-uh.

Welcome to IndiaMike.... Uptill Triund is fairly easy, so that should be OK. After Triund, based on what I've heard and read is that the gradient gets a little tough, but it's not that difficult, even if you do it solo.

What I can suggest is that in case you do no find any partners before you start from McLeodgans, get up to Triund and you are bound to find other Trekkers up there, and then you can take it on from there...

A lot still pending though...............

thanks for replying smakkar!

that article is good stuff - reads almost like a "what you shouldn't do on a trek" list really and is very informative in every other aspect. i'm hoping i won't run into much bellicose weather in april, but these things are hard to predict, I expect. getting caught in a rainstorm on an exposed mountainside sounds like a real nightmare.

Jan or Feb would almost guarantee fresh snow... but Mar or early April might find you some luck too. It's still pretty decent temp here in Delhi so snow this year would be melting slowly. Best of luck

Hi..
I have finally planned my trek from Dharmkot on 29th april...i will goto Triund and then to Lahesh caves..i hope i will find snow at lahesh caves?...

"One day i wanna go till indrahar pass.."

Is llaka same as lahesh caves?...

Why is the map in Wikimapia/google maps hazed at this path?..i m afraid if i loose path i will have to trust direction using SUN...

I know no guide....i have been till triund myself..but not after that....

i have heard/read on blogs that there is a temple at 3000Mtr mark where people pray for good weather...the weather will be that bad these days?

i will carry with me just the sleeping bag..and other essentials...

well.....i m more worried abt the directions..please help..

Refer to my post #2 above... Choose a busy day like Sat or Sun to get to Triund early in the day, and you are then bound to find people who would be going further up the path... Tag along with them
