Smile

Dear all,

I am going for a basic rock climbing course this month. Please suggest me about which type of climbing shoes I should take and also the ideal dress for climbing.

With regards,
Ayan

... And I was under impression, requirement of one size bigger is to accommodate your woolen and double socks!
See, how helpful discussion on Forum is...
Thanks

hey bro as far as the rock climbing shoes are concerned you have the option of going for evolve Quechua or mad rock all available in Delhi from adventure 18 and rocksport . evolve a little better in my experience .

as far as the discussion on trekking shoes goes i have been using Head 910 High TR for some time now , used them in a winter trek with 2-2.5 feet of snow as well as treks with rocks strewn all over, boulder jumping trails as well as skree and found them adequate completely water proof although i could have had done better in the 2 feet snow condition with more insulated shoes. these babies are a little costly round 6.5 Gs but will serve you all the more.
am planning to test there mettle either at NIM or Stok Kangri this year.
hope it helps

I too want to buy shoes for trekking to HKD this Dec end. Conditions might be snowy and wet. Can anyone please tell me specific brands which have retail outlets in Delhi NCR region where i can go, apart from woodland. Not really comfortable buying shoes online.

@ayanchaudhury
You can do bmc with any sports shoe but postively try for rubber soles. Anuways they will provide you koflach or similar snow boots for ice and snow craft.

Lightbulb

I felt like sharing this in the current forum; I had bought an Adidas "Adventure" (# not known)shoe in the year 2007. It has survived 1 expedition 5 treks and 5 rock climbing courses(only trek part)and after 2 times full stitching lately, i still am using for my morning runs!
Just yesterday, i have ordered for a Forclaz 500 from Adventure Quest,Cal. Tried on Merrell, Hi-Tec and Columbia at Singapore last month but cost was coming almost same as what i was getting at Cal for a Head(David, Cliffline & Sushanta, B Garden)and Hi-Tec (Sushanta)and all were Made in China.

if you are doing serious mountaineering, La Sportiva or Scarpa is definitely a brand i can recommend. they also do women models.

Greetings, Austriangirl
I have been using Salomon shoes for the past 3 years and I find it amazing...so light and good grip.Infact I cant think of using any other brand now.

Have tried the Forclaz 500 on my Rookund trek.
Worked fine on rock, slush, snow & slippery surfaces.

Also tried them during my treks in Western ghats.

You can buy them without any hesitation!

I've trekked quite a lot. Never gave shoes much thought. For me they have to be well broken in, should fit (half a size bigger actually) and should be very light. I find the low weight more than compensates for the other drawbacks such shoes have.
I've also heard from others that some people really love the ankle support a hardy hiking shoes provides. So, big range of individual choices.

To protect against blisters, it is a good idea to use preventive tape (at least on the big toe and the next finger). It has helped me quite a lot, especially as i tend to run downhill

Amarnath Yatra

Dear members,
I am planning to go to Amarnath cave shrine in the month of July, 2012. I wish to know from experienced members, the kind of shoes which are suitable for the yatra. I already have woodland shoe (with ankle, casual wear type) which I use occassionally to go for work. Is this sufficient or should I buy specialised shoe as some of the members have pointed out in this forum. Although I do not intend to trek in the future, I wouldn't mind buying a pair of shoes if it could help me in carrying out the yatra safely. Also, what other equipments/accessories are required for the expedition? This is the first time I'm going to north India and I'm averse to cold weather (as I've spent all my life in the humid coastal weather). I also suffer from gout. Kindly enlighten me on the issues.
Thank you.
