Get them from home
Get your pair from London, it will be much better that way.
If you are hitting Kathmandu, then good choice is available. Some choice in Manali as well. But nothing close to what choice you get in EU or US.

The Universe is an ellipsoid?... or a Spheroid?? If the sphere smiles... it becomes an ellipse. This IS Creation.
I have purchase Weinbrenner shoes sold by Bata. They purely have matched the testing norms in rigor rocky terrains of Sahyadris for my last 2 treks. Weinbrenner shoes are manufactured from South Africa and sold by Bata in all stores across the world.
The style / model Im referring to is 801-7958 Rs. 1299/-. You may find this in most metro cities but only in big Bata stores.

Slips on wet ground
Woodland shoes slip badly on wet ground.
There are much better imported shoes available with Avi Industries and Adventure 18. You can check them out.

woodland shoes (as par my info) hv recd a negetive review among avid trekkers. For normal trekking (which doesn't involve walking among snow), regular sneakers with good grip is sufficient. For advanced trekking, imported shoesare the only good option. One can also use the shoes used by indian army, but have to work a bit out on the shoes.

Adidas Terrex GTX Mid
I was reading threads on shoes with interest as I am joining a Basic Course at NIM, Uttarkashi in another 10 days and wanted to get some pointers towards purchasing trekking shoes. I finally zeroed in on Adidas Terrex, a Goretex layered high ankle boot which is a fine fit and lighter than the woodlands. Got it in the Adidas showroom in Connaught Place inner circle, Delhi.
Let me see how these work out. Costed a bomb though!

Investing in Shoes for High Alti enthusiasts

Have been reading this thread for sometime. Thought I shall throw in my bit too.Recently I said bye bye to my faithful old Saloman Pairs. The shoes were light weight yet hardy and lasted some pretty tough trek over the last 5 years- mainly glaciers, high passe and long cross country marches. They werent too good on deep snow though but overall a 4 out of 5. Unluckily Adidas in India do not stock any more of these.
Yesterday my "Project New Shoes" finished in view of the 2 serious treks we are planning this year (Harshil-Dhumdharkandi-Yamunotri- Janakichatti Trek in June and Trans Kumaon Trek Munsiyari-Milam-Untadhura Pass- Khingar Pass- Lapthal-Sumna- Malari).
I suggest, if anyone has a US connection there are some awsome deals one can get. For example I got myself a Koflach- Arctis- Expe for US$180. I am sure with some more bargain hunting I could have landed myself a $150 deal....this was merely 2 hours of search on the net. Any one would tell ...these are the best for deep snow trudges. There are other International brands like Scrapa and Lowa that are popular in the US ...but nothing to beat the Koflach technology.
For coss country walks I got a $ 200 deal on La-Sportiva- Glacier EVO. They area tad heavier than my old Soloman but definitely a great deal tougher and stronger. The hi-tech synthetic buckles of my Soloman gave way after 2 years in my Kedartaal trek....but these ones have metal clips and rivets...surely a lot stronger. 7 years back the Soloman cost me INR 5000 at Ansal Plaza Adidas outlet...considering that, these sub 200$ deals are a steal if you can get someone to carry it from the US on the way back..
..especially all the while that Rupee is going strong against the dollar. Just because of currency fluctuation there is a 20% discount already compared to last year.
There are other brands like Asolo, Vasque and Raichele etc which are equally good....for example I saw an Asolo GTX for 140$.
For guys looking at pursuing high Altitude trekking as a passion as a passion and a dominant hobby in worklife....this is the most important investment to make cause its the "Wheel" which has no spare tyres...makes the difference between comfort and agony, doubles or halvs the daily trek distance and saves or aggravates frostbites and injuries.
Saw some modern lines from Woodlands called weinbreiner or something...looks good as well
