Hi guys, I want to purchase a standard pair of hiking shoe within Rs.1000/- from Kolkata. I've used Rbk, Power & Bata Hunter. But those somehow didn't satisfied me. Now a days full rubber sole is not much available on any brands. They are using rubber mixed PU or rubber mixed PVC sole. Can u suggest any one?? What abt the Action shoes?? Plz. give me some suggestions. It will be very helpful.

I think you will not get a standard hiking shoe at that price.however you may look at bigshoebazaar.com.In their sale section they are offering a pair at rs 800.I purchased a pair and though it seems it is from rejected lots, still very much workable for trekkers like us.action (campus) is very comfortable but they are not hiking shoes in true sense.it is very hard to walk long on snow with that type of shoe.

It will be alomost impossible to find a decent trekking shoes under 1K. Action Trekker is again PVC sole and would not be of much help in Himalayan treks.
Check out the woodland shoes, they are in the range on 2K to 2.5K.

Good trekking shoes within Rs. 1000/- is difficult to get..U will get only good jogging shoes at that price(reebok)..I have found that the best trekking shoes in Kolkata are avaliable in Woodlands..But the best ones will cost around Rs 2250/-..But as shoes are one of the most important elements in a trek better not neglect them.

Dont buy woodland trekking shoes. They slip very easily if the surface beneath is wet.

Woodland has great trekking shoes. But, they might not have stock all the time.
You might to check at the nearest woodland store. Also, check website called www.stikage.com and www.getoffyourass.com, they sell trekking and camping equipment, shoes included. |

Dear Supratim
Here is a good shoe for you at the price you want. We did the recent Roopkund trek and walked a lot with these shoes. They took the snow, slippery paths quite well. I am not saying they are of international standard, but they passed our trekking test quite well. http://www.bigshoebazaar.com/product...ucts_id=3 273 Arjun |

Look like good shoe for trekking. Even if lasts a season it is very good. I thought of buying a pair for me right now for my next trek but no luck as my number is not available. |

Thanks Arjun,
I've placed order for that shoe in Bigshoebazaar. I liked the shoe. But one question, what about snow or water (rather damp). Is your shoes handling them quite well?? |

Dear Supratim
Yes they handled snow and ice very well. After the tough conditions at Roopkund, they still look like new. However, check your feet size before ordering. Some of my trek mates ordered standard bata size and found the sizes different. There's a chart on the website where you can draw out your feet. If you notice any difference, you can still call them and change the order preferences. Arjun |
