Maybe i should look at increasing my budget a bit.

Do you think i could manage this trek with action trekker medium rise? My other two options would be Hi-tech (for around 2,900 INR)or the Reebok Trail (the same ones as anjan6600)!
Decathlon has some decent ankle shoes and its not that expensive. Its on Sarjapur road.

Thanks Manzey! I have seen their website and had also spoken to someone in the store a couple of weeks back. They have one high ankle model from Quechua in my size:

http://www.decathlon.in/Hiking-Hikin...34f2#available

I haven't heard a lot about the brand in this forum and that's the reason i had asked for feedback on Quechua in one of my previous posts.

Quechua is the number 1 French brand and very popular in Europe (as per Decathlon - Bangalore).

When I looked at the shoes in Decathlon stores, I felt that the finish was not upto the mark compared to major brands like Merell, Asolo, The North Face, Vasque, La Sportiva etc......but none of the major brands offer shoes at the price Quechua offers...hence you can't compare with these big brands. I did find certain products offered by Quechua was good. Also, since Decathlon is one of the largest sports stores in Europe, I think they will not sell crappy things and spoil there reputation.

Maybe you can try Merrell, Zamberlan or other good brand shoes in India and if you like it, then ask any of your relatives/friends coming from abroad to pick it up. It works out very cheap that way. Especially, if you search in online stores...each of these stores sell the same type/brand/model of shoes at different rates.

Cheers!

Hi Anjan, hope you have checked the sole before buying. bcoz from the picture it doesn’t seem to be that good, though pictures are not enough to judge. But the kind of sole I can see in the pic,I have seen in my past experience, has a tendency of skidding in wet surface. But as I said I may be wrong in this case coz pics are not enough

Which trekking shoes to buy in the US

I am in the US right now on a short visit. Which shoes would you guys recommend for easy to medium treks (generally, no snow)? I was looking at the Merrell MOAB VENTILATOR MID which retails for around $90 and has good reviews on the Merrell and other sites. My ideal budget is around $60, but I am willing to stretch it if I get a really good pair. Thanks in advance.

I think i have finally solved my shoe dilemma! After almost 2 weeks of intense research and search, i now have a pair of trekking shoes and it is....

http://www.indiamike.com/india/newre...treply&t=15092

...the Hi-tech Addo mid. I called up Mr. Vishwanath based on the feedback here and other threads and he turned out to be an extremely helpful and resourceful person. Apart from advising me on the right shoes, he shared his experiences on Himalayan trekkings and knowledge about trekking gears in general. Very informative! The 'addo mid' came highly recommended by him (based on my budget) and apparently he himself uses the same model.

Shoe features:

- Suede leather and breathable mesh upper
- Moisture-wicking lining
- Soft padded collar
- Rustproof brass hardware
- Lightweight compression-molded EVA midsole
- Board lasted with steel shank for added rigidity and support
- Durable MDT carbon rubber hiking outsole
- Removable EVA sockliner

Wallet factor:

Maximum Retail Price: INR 3,199.00

Mr. Vishwanath offers a 10% discount without even one asking so this pair costed me INR 2,880.00

Now to break into these....

Hey, if you are in the US please look at a few online stores as that would translate into a considerable price advantage. I found http://www.sierratradingpost.com pretty good. As for the shoes, i will leave it to the more experienced members...

sorry for replying late on this

Any shoes ankle high and good grip are good to be used for trekking.
You need to specifically take care if there is snow.
I have done Dalhousie trek even in industrial safety shoes which are ankle high! costs you note more that INR 800/-
