Just tell your friend to approach to Tourister at Mani Sq. ( I pressume the shoe has been purchsed from this shop). They provide a 6months warranty on the shoe as far as I recollect.

This is very unfortunate, as I had used the shoe for about an week before my Roopkund trek. Still the shoe is as good as a new one.

Merrell does sell ankle shoes in India, but you got to search for it as its not available at all the shops which sells Merrell shoes.
I have seen these shoes in Gurgaon (Metropolitian mall and Central) and in Bangalore. Belive me, this particular model is very very good......not just because I own this....also, its little expensive and costs 7k.

I have pasted the link of the model which Merrell sells in India.

Where in Bangalore for shoes/backpacks?

Hi,
Could you tell me where to buy Northface, Lafuma or Columbia boots/shoes in Bangalore. The trek is for more than 3 weeks in NE India and I need good shoes and backpacks (40-50ltr) too. Apparently www.getoffurass.com has stopped selling products.

thanks for any suggestions,
djs

You can buy backpacks/shoes with Ozone Adventure One on Museum road. Also, good backups available at Decathlon stores ( check this thread for more info about decathlon Decathlon opens its first store in India in Bangalore )on sarjapur road and there are many Wildcraft stores and some of them do have shoes apart from backpacks.
Also, this person Vishwanath (whom I personally know) sells shoes / backpacks and does door delivery, but currently he has gone to Nepal for trek and should be back in one weeks time.

May I know where in north east you are planning to trek and when are you planning to do it ?

Happy trekking!

Cheers!

Thank you Manzey. Will checkout the stores Ozone & Decathlon shortly. I'm going to HMI, Darjeeling for 4 week Basic course and later a week at Sikkim (place not yet decided) during the month of Nov-Dec. Could you also please send me a PM of Vishwanath's number?

Sole of the matter!

Hi-

I have been looking for some trekking shoes in Bangalore and have realised two things:

- Its difficult to find a good pair of shoes if you are on a 'shoe'-string budget (< INR 2,000)

- Its even more difficult if you are a woman with not too large feet (UK size 5.5 but i generally pick up size 6)

I am going to the Winter Dalhousie trek December 09 organized by YHAI and right now shoes are my priority as i would need to break into them comfortably before the trek. I have read in some of the threads and heard from people that the Dalhousie trek is more of a picnic but still i do not want to take it lightly as this is my first trek anywhere close to the Himalayas!

Some questions from me:

- Are high ankle shoes recommended for this trek?
- Heard that action 'trekker' shoes are decent for budget shoppers like me. Do they still manufacture the high-ankle variety?
- Any thoughts on Woodland U-trek and Queshua?
- Which shoes would you recommend for me?

Some additional info: Ozone has only one model in UK size 6 for around INR 6,000-7,000 [Zamberlan]. Wildcraft also had something in the same range of Rs. 6,000 from the Hi-tech stable. Both are outside my budget . Also, i do not want to order online with Avi Industries or other stores without trying on the shoes first as I have flat feet and thus, am not very comfortable buying something without a trial.

Wow! This has turned out to be a longish post, please bear with it and be nice to me

If you are going to DALHOUSIE trek by YHAI, hunter shoes are more than enough. (Costs - 250/- INR).
These are even recommended for many other himalayan treks.
Regarding size, BATA hunter ash a size you are looking for and Always recommended to have a +1 Size in case you need to double your Socks.
Action trekker is good and ankle high as well. they might just match or bit over your budget.

no matter about longish post, till the time you get your self answered what you want and shop for it.

Thanks sunnyChau! Unfortunately, both Bata Hunter and Action trekker high ankle seem to be unavailable in Bangalore. I am planning to go and look some more today. And yes, by the time i am done with my shoe shopping, i will have a detailed report of what is available and where in Bangalore

You Will Not Get Choice For Size 12 In India

hi

even my shoe size is 12 US, i always have a problem to get shoes of my size in india, luckily my sis and cousine are in US, i get my shoes thru them, try llbean.com, rei.com, but do not depend on getting them from india and avoid woodland....

cheers

I would agree with you, you actually need to hunt for BATA Hunter, its not easily available in Mumbai either.
But yes if you find one place, there it would be like plenty. When i found a store where the sell this in around Mumbai, i had orders for at least 10 pairs of different sizes from my friends.
Which was available at one go.

Hope you will also find some store that will sell it an Bangalore. Till then happy hunting

I went and covered quite a few stores today. Found only one place that had hunter shoes but they didn't have my size. For action trekker high ankle i have been told that the company has stopped manufacturing them and they are not available in Bangalore anymore Infact one of the store guys called up the Bangalore distributor and confirmed this. Maybe i should look at increasing my budget a bit.

Do you think i could manage this trek with action trekker medium rise? My other two options would be Hi-tech (for around 2,900 INR)or the Reebok Trail (the same ones as anjan6600)!
